“I’m sorry for your loss.”
The five words that had brought her to where she was now.
“I think I have finally figured it out,” Buffy spoke to the person sitting next to her. “What Spike meant when he said I belonged in the darkness.”
She closed her eyes willing the images to go away but she knew they would haunt her until she gave out her very last breath.
Buffy knew something was wrong before she even turned in Revello Drive. She had been with Spike again. God she hated herself for it. What she did to him, what he did to her. It was wrong, she knew that but it was the only thing that kept her sane.
She had been lying in the bed with him when an icy cold feeling seemed to envelop her and for once it wasn’t the demon lying next to her.
She had tried phoning the house and got no reply. Right then she knew something had happened. Spike had tried to get her to stay with him but she had to get home as fast as she could.
She had never ran so fast in her life and her fears were realized when she saw the ambulance parked outside the house. She charged past the paramedics into the living room and that’s when she saw the body.
In almost an identical position as she had found her mother.
“Dawn!” she whispered falling to her knees. The body was Dawnie, her sister, her daughter, her world, lying there lifeless beside her.
“Buffy,” Willow appeared from the kitchen. “I’m so sorry.”
“What happened?” she didn’t care everyone was watching. The last piece of her heart that was whole had shattered and she wanted to know why.
“She had been coming home from a friends house,” Xander spoke as he held her in one arm and a sobbing Anya in another. “Whoever…whatever did it left her on the doorstep.”
“We phoned the…and brought her in.” Willow finished for him.
They stayed with her until the body had been taken away. It had been horrible losing Joyce but this…no one knew what she would do the state she was in and they didn’t want to leave her on her own.
Knowing what they were doing, Buffy made her excuses and said she wanted to be alone. The plan was already formulating in her mind as she walked up the stairs.
She waited until everyone had either left or went to bed and packed a bag, filling it with picture of everyone and a few items of clothing. Silently she climbed through her window and went down the pipe like she used to when her mother still had no idea how she was.
She took one last look at the house and left Revello Drive for the very last time.
That had been a few weeks ago. She had threatened and beat the information she needed out of the vampires stupid enough to get in her way. She had finally sought out who she needed in Mexico.
“Got to say, I never saw this coming,” Darla turned to her. “The slayer coming to me…now that’s a surprise.”
“Says the vampire who is pregnant,” She threw back. “So are you going to help me or not?”
“I know your hurting but how can you justify this?” Darla stared at her. “You are betraying your calling.”
“My calling killed everything and everyone I love.” She glared standing up and walking away.
“What happened to you?” she turned back to the vampire. “Last time we met you would have killed me if Angel hadn’t been there.”
“This thing in me,” she pointed at her belly. “I guess it’s soul is going through me as well. Believe me if I could I would kill you but…”
“I need this Darla, you’re the only one who will give it to me,” she begged. “The pain hurts so much that I can’t breathe. I’m dead already, there’s nothing left in here anymore.”
She heard Darla come up behind her. She closed her eyes as the fangs grazed her neck, fighting the urge to kill the vampire.
She groaned as Darla’s fangs pierced her neck, draining her until there was nothing left.
Rather than drop her body. Darla gently placed it down. “I hope you’ve finally got what you needed Buffy!”
She walked away as the lifeless eyes of her once rival burned into her back.
