Late evening – Gray Watch Repair - Poughkeepsie, New York. Near Future
He watched the news idly. Despite the evident drama and spectacle, nothing penetrated through. The noise was a soothing drone as he weighed the cool metal in his hand.
"Good evening. This is Anderson Cooper. I'm speaking to you now live from Akron, Ohio. We have more on today's top story, including first-hand accounts of the terrifying situation in Cleveland. As you've heard, the city has now been evacuated and no-one - media included - is allowed into that stricken city.
The presence of UNIT troops in Cleveland has caused alarm in some circles, which have questioned US readiness for this... disaster. However, I should tell you that Pentagon sources have told me that unscheduled combined Army/ Air Force manoeuvres taking place in northern Pennsylvania mean that a significant US military presence will be in place in and around Cleveland by tomorrow.
Coming up in just a moment we have first-hand accounts and video to share with you later in this segment – and some of the numerous highly unusual reports coming out of the city tonight. But first, we're going to go live to our reporter Jason Carroll and a news conference that's being held at the University of Akron with Senator Nathan Petrelli, junior Senator for New York and General Mace of UNIT command."
"Thank you, Anderson. Yes, the presence of Senator Petrelli is perhaps particularly important, given that he hasn't been seen outside the White House since this 'event' began. His reason for- Ah, it looks as if Senator Petrelli is about to begin..."
The world would change.
Nothing would never be the same again.
None of it was of interest to Gabriel Gray.
He slid the small handgun back into the drawer of his workbench.
He'd end it one day.
