Ben and Max
Forest

"I can't Ben, " Max began to cry.

"Yes you can Max! You have to! Don't let them take me you know what they'll do to me, " Ben said looking up into her face.

She looked down into his eyes, "I can carry you Ben please don't make me do this to you. " She cried as a tear fell from her eye.

Ben reached up and caught the tear on his finger. "You know it has to be this way Max. I have to pay for my sins," he said caressing the side of her face.

"No dammit Ben help me. I can't loose you after I've just found you, " she said desperately.

"You're wasting time Max do it, " he ordered.

With that Max quickly snapped his neck.

Present Day

Max lit the candle in St. Mark's Church in front of The Blue Lady. "Please take care of my brother Ben. He had such faith and devotion to you. Happy Birthday Ben. You are missed and never forgotten, no matter hard I try."

The Water Tower

Alec

Ben was a storyteller. While at Manticore he kept the others sane and made them a family. Ben gave them a feeling of safety in one of the least-safe places in the world. I wish I had had a Ben. Maybe... maybe I’d be like Max, able to forget and move on. Maybe I’d be able to lose myself in helping others and leave behind my own pain.

But I didn’t have a Ben. I didn’t have a family. I just had training and pain. I just had myself and lies and acting a part that I could never truly become—because, I think, we weren’t made for it.

Ben and I—we’re different, even from the other transgenics.

Alec had gone to the top of the water tower and painted the words: Ben, my brother I wish I had known you. Perhaps we could have helped each other and neither of us would be so alone. You are missed.
