Sharin' horizons that are new to us
Watchin' the signs along the way
Talkin' it over just the two of us
Workin' together day to day, together.

And when the evening comes we smile
So much of life ahead
We'll find a place where there's room to grow
And yes! We've only just begun.

Rainy Days: The Prequel

The time had come for Michael to have ‘the talk’ with Fiona. He dreaded this and had put it off as long as he could. He was a ‘burned’ spy, and at long last had come to the conclusion that there was no practicable way for him to lose the ‘burned’ status. He was well and truly screwed, and he refused to take her down with him. As a some times partner, she was relatively safe, barring going to prison as a bomb maker, or being killed in a shoot out, but as his wife she would be an open target for anyone who wanted to hurt him. He loved her! Dammit he would not put her in even more danger than she put herself. He was to meet her in the park at three for a picnic. He’d have to do it there. He’d put it off for way too long.

He was half way through the talk, and she had only socked him once! Then she did something unexpected she started to cry, I mean really cry hard. Then she hiccuped those fateful words.

“Dammit Michael, ‘hiccup’, I love you, ‘hiccup’, I wish there was some, ‘hiccup’, way we could have a life together, ‘hiccup’, a home and, ‘hiccup’ family!”

A few yards away Sayda the new vengeance demon on the block and Nenya an old friend of Anyanka’s were having a peaceful lunch in the park.

“Look I’ve got an idea! I’ll be right back and then I’ll give you some real training, for what I’ve got in mind we are going to have to work together,” Nenya said quickly then she popped out. Less than a minute later she popped back in, soaking wet!

“I’ve just granted a real good wish, now we turn it into your new patronage, vengeance for a scorned woman, my friend Anya’s old beat. She whispered in Sayda’s ear, dripping State of Washington rainwater into the potato salad. Both girls’ faces took on their demonic look and at the same time they said, “Granted”! and they started to giggle. Nenya smiled, “for you Anya.”

Just at that moment Sam Axe walked up. “Hey Mike I have something here for you. I don’t know what to make of it!” Handing an official looking document to Westen he sat down. Mmm, fried chicken, potato salad, and, ah yes, beer, yum!”

“Oh by the way Mike let Fi read page two…out loud…I laughed til’ I cried. I mean really cried,” Sam said around a mouth full of fried chicken.

Fiona’s eyes adjusted to the sun shining on the white paper, then they grew very, very wide.

“The afore mentioned offer is only good if, and only if the team of Westen, Glenanne, and…Sam did you read page three?” she said her voice shaking.

“No,” Sam said, suddenly wary.

“The team of Westen, Glenanne, and Axe remain together as a functioning, cohesive unit,” she read, then she looked at Sam and Michael’s faces, and started to giggle.

Once she stopped laughing…ten minutes later, she said looking directly at Michael with a sober face, “Your reason for rejoining the agency is patriotism, Sam’s is money, and friendship, there is a price for my participation as well.” She pointed to her third finger left hand.

The wedding was the event of the season. Sam was best man, and Fiona’s sister Maeve O’Shea was maid of honor. The guest list was eclectic at best: Sam’s old mentor Virgil Watkins, Michael’s brother Nate who provided an armored Hummer limo, Barry the money launderer, Seymour the arms dealer and his bodyguard ‘Jackass’, Jason Bly of the CSS, Detective Michelle Paxon, the schizoid computer genius Spencer, and Team Westen’s new handler Carlos. Then there were the two gentlemen who arrive by helicopter. They were instantly surrounded by a team of official bodyguards they stayed for the ceremony left early and also left a gift of an all expense paid two week honeymoon in Bora Bora. Mama Madeline Westen beamed from the sidelines with the prospect of finally having grandchildren to spoil!

Nine months and two weeks later she got her wish. Alexander Michael Samuel Westen was born weighing six pounds, seven ounces. He had a shock of medium brown hair, and hazel eyes. He was his mother’s darling and his father’s pride and joy.

Two years later fraternal twins Elizabeth Madeline and Willow Igraine Westen were born. Two year old Xander promptly named them Buffy and Wills. Blonde Buffy was small 5 pounds three ounces and redheaded Willow was a little bigger at six pounds four ounces. The twins were followed twenty-three months later by baby Dawn Michelle. She was easily the largest of the three children at birth weighing in at a hefty seven pounds eleven ounces. Her soft brown hair and big blue eyes immediately charmed her big brother.

New lives begin for everyone concerned.

Author’s Note: My thanks to Waverley for the suggestion of a prequel. Look for a postscript about Giles reaction after the transition was made.
