This is a piece of fanfiction and is not done for any profit. It's just an idea that ran through my head the other day.
“How is his psych eval going?” Jack asked as he came into Allison's office.
“Not like I thought it would. I understand a little about where he's from but his primary answers for the Blot test were 'Demon, Demons and spaghetti'.” Allison quoted from the digital notepad she'd been looking at. “I'm half tempted to leave him in Beverly's care.”
“Oh, that's probably not a good idea.” Jack said. “Trust me. Stark still oohing and aahing over his DNA?”
“He'd be happier if the kid gave up some extra 'samples' but he is having fun trying to puzzle it out. Taggart won't even let him near the animal testing facility after the aquarium incident.” Allison told him.
“What aquarium incident?” Jack asked.
“Well there's a large decorative Aquarium in the aquatic research section that he was being toured through. The fish are harmless but... when he was walking past all of the fish in the tank suddenly swam toward him. They formed a man shaped figure that mirrored his walking pattern.”
“No way.” Carter smiled. “You have footage?” He asked.
“Of course.” Allison said while rolling her eyes. “Koi don't act like that. It's almost supernatural the way it happened. They're still puzzling it out..
“Maybe it is.” Carter told her.
“Carter... please.” Allison said. “His EEG has shown that parts of his brain are more active than most. The current theory that it establishes a type of bond with simpler minded aquatic creatures.”
“Like Aquaman?” Carter asked. “I've seen some of the show. I honestly think he'd fit right in here.”
“Good. He's currently in the basic psych eval that all GD employees go through every two years. While his IQ isn't that great, his problem solving skills are phenomenal.” Allison said. “Everyone seems to want to study him.”
“Great.” Jack said. “As long as he's the current wonder boy, I've got an offer for him too.”
“What?” Allison asked.
“Well, I know GD has their own security forces and Jo's remarkably competent but.... I could really use another set of hands.” Carter said. “Eureka's a pretty big place and we can't be everywhere at once.”
“You want him as a deputy?” Allison asked with a laugh. “That's.... actually that could work.”
“Really?” Carter asked. “I really think Jo would love to have someone to order around. I figure that way he'd be out of your hair and he seems like he'd be able to help out around town. You have any idea what his job history was before he was in Africa?”
“Well he's been everything from a phone sex operator to a construction foreman.” Allison said as she consulted her files. “A really varied set of skills.”
“Sounds like Henry.” Jack smiled.
“Poor man's Henry maybe.” Allison admitted. “He's got some competence in old languages, mostly centered around the word 'trap' as well as a few other key words.”
“That's neat.” Jack said. “How long is he going to be in testing?”
“Another twenty hours.” Allison said. “If you want we can go observe it.”
“Lead the way.” Jack grinned.
“Ha ha!” They overheard his laughter as they watched him figure out the latest test. “There never was a spoon!”
“How many scenarios has he gone through?” Allison asked.
“Twenty seven.” The lead scientist said. “He's almost at the record.”
“Jo's not going to be happy about that.” Allison sighed “Wait, wasn't the record twenty nine?”
“She solved the last one at the buzzer.” The scientist said as she checked her notes. “He's still got a ways to go, pretty soon all we'll have left are variations of a theme.”
“Guess that means you guys need to design a bigger test.” Jack joked.
They all looked at him.
“Or you know, not.” He added nervously.
“Whoo!” Xander said as he adjusted his eye patch. “That was a ride.” he grinned as he walked out of the testing facility wearing some fresh clothes. He'd used his clothing during the tests when it was necessary so he'd ended up passing the last five in his underpants.
“I am not looking forward to when I have to take those.” Jack said as he walked up and shook the man's hand.
“They're not so bad once you get in the swing of things.” Xander assured him. “Though they tell me the tests are different for everyone. So what's up?”
“How would feel about working for me?” Jack asked. “You know, as a deputy.”
“Would I get to keep my bullet in my pocket?” Xander asked with a grin.
“Or you could give it to Jo.” Jack told him. “She's really into weapons.”
“I noticed that. Say is she freakishly strong?” Xander asked.
“Yeah she is. But no, not a Slayer.” Jack told him.
“I really need to watch this show.” Xander muttered.
“I've got them all at home now. I've got a guest bedroom but I have to warn you, my house is a little.... weird.” Jack told him.
“It's probably not that weird.” Xander said.
“Uh huh.” Jack grinned.
“A bomb shelter? Really?” Xander asked.
“Wait till you meet the lady of the house.” Jack said.
“Your wife?” Xander asked, having noticed the man's wedding band.
“Ex-wife and no. Sarah is very much the lady of the house. My daughter Zoe's in school right now so you can get yourself set up in the guest room. I don't think you'll want to be staying at the bed and breakfast. Beverly is.... Beverly.” Jack told him as they got out of his Jeep.
“Sounds ominous.” Xander said. “Let's just see what this place has to offer.”
“Xander, you've been there an hour.” Jack called to the bathroom.
“Sorry. I've been reading the papers.” Xander replied as he washed his hands. “This place is awesome.”
“It needs a second bathroom, but yeah.” Jack agreed. “I'll ask Fargo to see what can be done about that.”
“Sounds good. So now what?” Xander asked.
“You need to read the rules and regulations for being a deputy here in Eureka.” SARAH said.
“She's got a point. Hell I'm still reading my manual and I've been here for over a week.” Jack told him.
“Great.” Xander sighed. “Well, I'll be in the bathroom then.”
Jack almost stopped him before pausing and opting not to. “SARAH, take care of him. I've got to get back to the office.” He said.
“No problem Sheriff Carter.” SARAH said as the man walked out the front door.
“So what's the verdict Henry?” Carter asked the town handyman.
“Well, his body while alive also seems to have a fluctuating energy field keeping it together. I've done some studies and if I'm right, we've got a permanent resident here.” Henry told him.
“He'll never get back home?” Carter asked.
“No, the energy field is nearly identical to the electromagnetic umbrella over the town. If he leaves.... it'll kill him and bring down the umbrella.” Henry told him. “If that happens, Eureka will be visible to the world.”
“Oh, crap.” Jack muttered.
