Author Notes: Part of the Fic A Day challenge as well as a partial response to the challenge for Xander to end up on Hogan's Heroes *smirks* Wish Granted.
Warning: Xander is lost in time, sort of, with no memory of Buffy and the rest of the Scoobies. Instead his 'memories' have been adjusted so that the current reality is all he knows. *smirks* Poor Anya, is in a world of trouble as well.
Xander smiled at last, now that the door had been closed and he and Hogan were in relative privacy. "It's been too long since I saw you last," he said softly.
"Yeah, and this is the absolutely worst place to meet up at again," Hogan said just as softly in reply. "What the hell are you doing here anyways?"
Xander shrugged at that. "I drew the short straw, so to speak out of a very small list of possible volunteers for the mission."
"Son of a..."
"Yeah, pretty much," Xander said. "There were only a few people who had all the qualifications needed, and I had the biggest amount of needed skills."
Robert let out a soft sigh at that. "So that's what they meant, when they said an old friend would be joining us, and he'd have some needful information."
Xander sighed and nodded at that. "Things are heating up, and in a big way. It's going to be very close either way. That's why I'm here, I've got the codes locked up in my memory so that there is no way they could be lost."
"So how do we unlock them?"
Xander chuckled softly at that. "Technically you don't. There are specific call in times to London, which I do know, when I give them half of the code, and they reply with the other half to unlock the codes. From there they're only in my mind, since it's not safe to write them down...unless you can guarantee no one else will have access to them?"
"I've got one or two completely safe spots. I also will need to introduce you to the rest of the guys."
"Yeah, I've already been told a little about them, but it would be a good idea to get to know them in person as well," Xander said softly. Shifting ever so closer to his one time lover. "So where do you and I stand...just friends...or is what we had still an option..."
"Xander..." Robert said softly, shifting to face him, flinching ever so slightly at the closeness.
"I want you.... and I can tell you want me...." Xander said softly, bringing a hand up to gently rest on his lover's shoulder. "I know the dangers as well as you do..."
"Yes...." he said softly, leaning in closer to Xander.
"So it's your call...your move Rob....they're your men, and you know best how they'd react if they caught even a hint of it," Xander said softly, not moving an inch, forcing himself to leave the decision up to his former lover.
Sighing softly, Rob leaned in and let his lips brush oh so softly across Xander's, knowing that they had to be careful. Pulling back, he pulled his lover into his arms. "We'll have to be beyond careful Xan...one wrong word or move...the tiniest slip up...."
Xander nodded "I know, believe me I know. I have no desire to be shipped off, with you to the other 'camps'. To get the triangle pinned on me, to be labeled as the 'third sex'. I know what happens there."
"Then we have to be far more careful than ever we were before."
"Yeah we do, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy a bit of fun here and there...does it," Xander asked softly, letting his fingers slip up under his lover's leather coat, as he nibbled oh so gently at the ear lobe. "Instead, we'll get to enjoy the same things as we did before, but just have to be even more gentle."
Licking at the neck right below his lovers ear, he smiled as he shivered under this barely there touch.
"Xan...." Hogan said in a whisper of a groan
"Your mine, just like I'm yours Rob...just keep quiet and enjoy it," Xander said softly, laying a feather light trail of kisses along the exposed throat.
Laying out the last part of the summoning material, Giles looked it over with a critical eye. "This is your final chance Anya, do you wish to provide an answer, or do we go forward?"
"I didn't do anything. Even if someone acted on my behalf, that's not my fault," Anya said with a glare. "I'm also sure D'Hoffryn will see it that way."
Buffy let out a snort at that.
"Very well then Anya," Giles said, Lighting the candle with a snap of his fingers, he began the summoning chant, causing Anya to frown as she heard the words of the summoning.
"Nooooooooooo...you can't do that."
Continuing the chant, GIles said nothing as he threw a pinch of the herbs into the cauldron that held a burning coal.
As the herbs hit the coal and burst into flames a puff of smoke arose from it.
"Who dares to summon me," a voice said, echoing from the smoke, as eyes and a mouth slowly formed in the smoke that wreathed upwards.
Stopping his chant, Giles bowed in the direction of the smoke. "I humbly call upon you, O Most Powerful one, I come before you to beseech your aid on behalf of one who has been wronged."
"You dare much mortal, you who have broken your own oaths and struck out upon a new path, could just as easily be judged by me," the being said coldly. "And unless you offer a good enough reason, you will be judged as well."
"I am prepared to accept that risk and the judgment that may follow as well. One who is like unto a son to me, has been wrongfully harmed by his former fiancée. She has called upon a Temprus Mage to gain her vengeance, which she was forbidden from seeking."
The eyes in the smoke closed for a minute as it silently contemplated the issue, its own gifts reaching forth to measure the weight of the hearts of all those present.
"Very well, I shall render judgment in the matter," the being said at last. "You Anyanka, have broken your vows and your pledge to your Master. For that both your Master and I shall render judgment upon you."
"No....." Anya said with a shriek. "I didn't do anything..."
"Silence Anyanka," the voice commanded, the power behind it filled with the force of a compulsion. "Now as regards the one she wronged, there is nothing that I can do. He is lost to you. For his memories and knowledge of this time and place, of the life he lived up till now have been wiped clean. He is beyond recalling, and to do so, would cause him and others far greater pain. That would not be fair to him."
Giles bowed his head at that, his worst fears realized. "I had feared as much, but hoped you might be able to undo what had been done."
"No. What is done is done and can not be undone," the voice said softly. "Judgment is also rendered upon the Slayer and also upon the Witch. You claim to be friends, to care for this young man, but those are merely words. Had you noticed far sooner that he was missing, had you truly cared for him, as your words proclaim, but your actions deny, this could possibly have been undone. Your punishment is this. You shall know for the remainder of your days, the cost of your actions. For every pain and hurt the one you called friend suffers, so you to shall suffer it. For as long as it takes for the injury to heal, so shall it take you to heal. As for you Willow Rosenburg, you have wielded power without care for consequences. You have betrayed the laws and oaths you swore when you chose this path to walk. Your punishment is this. You shall hold the power that you do, but you shall never be able to wield it. The power shall be yours only, until you bear a child. Then it shall pass unto your child, and you shall be with out it, with out the ability to touch it, or the knowledge of how to wield it."
"As for you Slayer, you always proclaim yourself to be 'The Slayer'. You are not the first, but you shall be the last to be called. You shall serve until the end of this world. Then at last you shall be freed of the obligation. For your ego, you shall be the Alpha and the Omega. From you shall spring a new line of Slayers once this world is no more."
"And as for your Anyanka, this is the judgment that I render. You are to be struck deaf and dumb. You shall once more be mortal, but never to speak or hear a spoken word again. No more to ever know pleasure, you shall live as long as the number of days as your ex does live. You shall live in the same manner as those who you have despised and sought to rise above. As you're used, so you shall be used in turn.
"Gentlemen," Colonel Hogan said once he had everyone's attention he went on. "This is Lieutenant Xander Harris, he and I were both in the same squad of the Air Force, before this. He's also the contact that we were told to expect."
A ruckus of argumentive voices broke out at that.
"Gentlemen," Colonel Hogan said at last, raising his voice over the arguments. "He's not here to replace anyone, but to supply some much needed information and intelligence. As well as provide an extra set of hands for our operation. Now I know it's going to take time to integrate a new person in, but as a personal favor to me, I'm asking you to let him prove himself, without the usual crap going on. Things are apparently heating up, so we need to all work together and not be at odds with one another."
"Fine Colonel, as long as he understands he's the low man on the totem pole and such it's all good," Kinch said with a glare for the newest member of their operation.
"I'm well aware of that Kinch," Xander shot back with an equally pointed glare. "I'm not here to try and step on anyone's toes, but to provide the extra support that is going to be needed. As Colonel Hogan said, things are heating up to a ready boil at the moment. I don't know the exact time frame, but it's nearly at the start of a major turning point."
Jaws dropped as the import of that registered.
"I've also got the newest codes, locked away in my head, and even I can't access them until, I've spoken to London. They have the phrase that will unlock, what they hid in my skull, essentially."
"So, we all need to work together, Any issues, for or with anyone, bring it up to me and I'll deal with it," Colonel Hogan said simply. "Now since we're already out of space, I'm going to have Harris bunk in with me, I don't know why Clink ordered all those changes, but we'll deal with it. Understood?"
After the quiet round of yes sirs, and understood end at last, he nodded. "Good, that's all and I'll be talking with you guys further later. For now, I've got a number of things to discuss with Xander. So give us some privacy and keep an eye and ear out. Ok?"
Leading Xander back into his relatively 'private' quarters in the barracks, Hogan shut the door behind them and locked it.
"Well that could have been a lot worse," he said at last, after he pulled out a small, hidden bottle of brandy. Sitting down on the lower bunk, he patted the mattress beside him and smiled as Xander took a seat beside him.
"And it could have been a lot better. Still, at least we're all on the same page for now," Xander said just as softly. "And I do hope that no one figures the rest of it out."
"Even if they catch us joking or teasing, they know we're old friends. Plus I've got my rep as a ladies man to fall back on. They won't believe it to be possible. Even so we are going to have to be very discreet."
Leaning in closer, Xander stole the kiss he'd been wanting. "I know, and I also know that once we're out of here, it's going to be even harder."
"Yeah well, the future is what ever it is. I could see settling in somewhere and just being two war buddies who are good 'friends' in some big city. What about you?"
"Oh I'm definitely up for that. People don't worry about their neighbors quite as much in the big city. So the only question is, do you have any lotion for later tonight?"
Chuckling softly, Robert Hogan nodded. "I believe that I do indeed have some. And I can't wait to put it to good use."
