First Meeting

Buffy first met Henry when she was seven years old.

She was at the park, playing happily on the swings while her mother sat nearby, talking to the other mothers, when he sat down next to her. He was an older gentleman, with graying temples and wrinkles at the corners of his eyes.

But his brown eyes were friendly and his smile was as warm as his voice. He simply swung next to her, telling her about his three year old daughter and the games she liked to play. He said he thought she and Buffy would be good friends.

Buffy informed him primly that she was seven and three quarters years old, practically a lady, and therefore much too grown up to be friends with a three year old.

Henry laughed loudly, shaking his head with a smile.

Maybe you'll change your mind when you're older.

He'd laughed again at her disbelieving look, kneeling down by her swing and holding out his hand for her to shake.

It's been very nice to meet you, Buffy. I'll see you again.

And just like that, he'd been gone.
