The First was ecstatic.

The Slayer was dead.

It walked through the Sunnydale Cemetery. Someone was bound to disturb her grave.

I should have necromancers animate the body, the First thought. That would be amusing.

Then the First stopped. Something was wrong.

The Slayer’s grave was unmolested. Nothing was disturbed.

It reached towards the tombstone.

And the tombstone blazed forth with heavenly light, driving the First back.

That wasn’t the Powers That Be.

That was Her.

Nothing was going to touch the Slayer until She allowed it.

The First wanted to scream, but didn’t.

At least She noticed this time.
