~In Times of Peril~

Ethan Rayne kneeled in front of the statue of Janus in the back of his shop. “The world that denies thee, thou inhabit. The peace that ignores thee, thou corrupt. Chaos I remain, as ever, thy faithful degenerate son.

“Thanks for helping me find a costume Xander,” said Dawn as they walked to the new costume store. “I tried to get Buffy to help me but she kept going on about Angel and how he would love her costume, she started getting ready twenty minutes ago, and she still has five hours till normal people even begin to get ready!”

“It’s fine Dawn patrol,” answered Xander. “Buffy wants to get ready for Deadboy, let her; I personally prefer spandex to Petticoats.” As they waked into Ethan’s Costume Store, they started to look around for a costume for Dawn. After searching for a half hour, they were about to go to another store when the store’s owner came up to them.

“Can I help you two?” asked the store owner. “My name is Ethan, and I am the owner of this establishment. I noticed that you seem to be having trouble finding a costume.”

“Yeah,” said Dawn, taking the lead, “Me and Xander are looking for a unique costume. A lot of the ones that you have in your store are going to have dozens of people dressed like them. Also, do you have anymore theme costumes, like people from the same book, or movie?”

“Dawn, started Xander, “it’s fine you kno-.”

“Be quiet Xander,” said the child firmly. “Fatigues and a fake gun is NOT a costume. It’s boring and I will not be trick or treating with you in a boring costume.”

“Yes Dawn,” answered Xander exasperated. Turning to Ethan he said, “Well, you heard the lady, what have you got?”

“Well, I think that I may have a few sets that fit your needs in the back,” answered Ethan. “I didn’t pull them out today because nobody knew who they were, but if you want to be unique, then these may be what you’re looking for. I’ll be right back.”

Five minutes later, Ethan came back with four costumes the first male costume looked to be a superhero with a red-orange wig, while the second one seemed to be more of a Kimono from Old Japan and a long white wig. Dawn’s first potential costume looked to be a dress with a star trek look and a wig the same color as Xander’s first wig. The second costume was a white and orange checkered kimono with a long black wig.

“The first set of costumes is some superhero and his sister from the DC comics,” said Ethan hoping to make another sale in order add to the chaos of that night. ‘A demon lord and his daughter, they would cause much chaos, I just need to make them pick the second set’. “Not as popular as Superman, but that is what you wanted. The second set is from some book series in Japan that is just starting out, popular over there but it hasn’t hit over here quite yet. What do you think?”

“I don’t know. Anime is cool, but so are superheroes,” said Dawn. “What do you think Xander?”

“I really don’t care Dawnster, I already had my costume,” answered Xander, “you’re the one who is making me get a costume you pick.”

“I know,” said Dawn, pulling out a coin, “let’s flip for it, heads for the first set, and tails for the second set.” Dawn flipped coin and it landed on heads. “I guess were going as the superheroes. How much do we owe you?”

“Well, I didn’t thin that I would sell any of these costumes, let alone the entire series of them, so I’ll give you the same deal that I gave the others, 65% off in exchange for telling people where you got your costume and not telling them who you are until tomorrow, do we have a deal?” Ethan was disappointed that they hadn’t chosen the second set of costumes but really, if nobody knew of this team then they wouldn’t be able to do much damage to his plans, not like some of those other heroes.

“We’ll take it,” said Dawn before Xander could protest. “Resolve face Xander.”

“No fair, only Willow can use the Resolve face,” complained Xander. “Fine, oh yeah, just who are we dressing up as anyway?”

“Oh how forgetful of me, you are going as…”

“Come on Willow, I’m sure that you look fine, trust me,” said Buffy, trying to get her friend out of the bathroom. “Now let me see.”

Willow stepped out of the bathroom timidly, looking at herself in the mirror. It wasn’t as bad as the outfit that Buffy had tried to get her into earlier, but she still would have preferred her normal ghost costume. “Buffy, this doesn’t look like any ghost costume I’ve seen before, are you sure that it’s a ghost?”

“Her names Phantom something, I can’t remember,” answered Buffy, “and she’s some superhero. The point is that you are fully covered, you even have a little ghost in the center of your chest, but you’re not overly covered.” The Doorbell rang, “That will be Xander with Dawn, wait here for two minutes before coming down, And don’t even think of getting the costume you bought out, I returned it when I got you this one.”

Willow looked at herself in the mirror, trying to see if there was anything that she could do to make her costume less revealing. Not seeing anything, she sighed before walking down the stairs to meet her friends.

~In Times of Peril~

A young man looked in the mirror as he finished applying the three circles to his forehead in an upside-down triangle ‘Brainaic always was my favorite character in the Legion,’ He thought before leaving for the school. ‘It was really lucky that Ethan’s had the character, most people wouldn’t sell him.’

~In Times of Peril~

Cordelia Chase had finally finished putting on her costume and was leaving to do the “Volunteering” that she had “chosen” to do. Normally she wouldn’t be caught dead dressed is a superhero costume, but she had lost a bet and Cordelia Chase doesn’t go back on her word, even if she wants to some times. ‘At least I was able to drag Oz into this with me’.

~In Times of Peril~

Daniel “Oz” Osborne looks at the costume in his hands that Cordelia had “helped” him pick out. ‘Really,’ he thought, ‘if she didn’t want to dress up like a comic book character, then she didn’t have to make the bet’. ‘Oh well,’ he thought as he put the costume on, ‘I always did like wolves’.

~In Times of Peril~

Amy Madison stood in front of the mirror of her room. Ever since her mom had taken over her body to relive her youth she had become more withdrawn. As she put the finishing touches on her costume, she thought of what had made her choose this costume over all the others that were in the store. Amy knew the full history of her character, in all of her adaptations. She was never alone, even when she was by herself. She always had someone to count on, have her back if things got hard. In the version that she was dressing up as, she had lost part of herself, but by the end of the story, she found her again, but there was another reason that she had dressed as her. ‘If only I had real friends like she did,’ was her final thought as she walked into the school, ‘Maybe I’ll meet a “Chuck” like she did, I always did like the name “Charles” better though’.

~In Times of Peril~

“Janus, evoco vestram animam. Exaudi meam causam. Carpe noctem pro consilio vestro. Veni, appare et nobis monstra quod est infinita potestas. Persona se corpum et sanguim commutandum est. Vestra sancta praesentia concrescet viscera. Janus! Summe noctem!” Ethan chanted the final part of the spell that would bring chaos to the town that he had set up shop in. “Let the games begin.”

TO BE CONTINUED…

Please tell me what you think, and if you want to guess what I’m crossing this with. Bonus points if you tell me who the other costumes are.
