Nothing Else Matters

10- Nothing Else Matters- Metallica

So close no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
And nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know

So close no matter how far
It couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know

I never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
And nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they say
Never cared for games they play
Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
And I know

So close no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
No, nothing else matters

Faith wasn't exactly the trusting sort. Not many people had stuck by her, in her life. Not many had forgiven her, either, but she thought that might be changing. Ever since she'd come back into their lives, stood with them at the Closing of the Hellmouth, the Scoobies had been treating her like one of them. She and Willow had talked in the car, she'd laid the past to rest with Xander, even she and B...

Well, despite all the new Slayers, she and B were back to acting like the Chosen Two. Without all the pressure of being The Only Slayer, on The Hellmouth, B was relaxing, finding the fun in kicking a new ass every night. As the Senior Slayers, Faith and Buffy were mobile, traveling to hot-spots and demonic flare-ups, backing up the juniors or taking on threats too big for them. But the fate of the world no longer rested on Buffy's shoulders, and she was smiling and laughing a lot more now.

Usually they traveled together, and fought together when they got there, and everyone who watched their fights was mesmerized. They didn't need to talk, their bodies working together, around and with each other, so graceful and yet so fiery that more than one observer was reminded of a tango. But talk they did, jokes and banter and scathing commentary about their opponents. More than one demon was driven to unthinking rage by the Slayers' seeming unconcern for the life or death struggle they were engaged in.

Sometimes they traveled alone, but Faith could still feel B, know her emotions, know if she was in a fight and how well it was going. And she knew, because they'd talked about it, that B could feel her, too. They could both feel all the Junior Slayers, but dimly, like a candle in the next room. They could feel each other like standing in front of a fire, no matter what.

It made them close. They talked, as they flew all over the world in the Council jet, Faith finally opening up to someone about her childhood, her first Watcher, the frustrations of a Slayer behind bars, and Buffy confessing all the rage, the guilt and powerlessness and grief she'd been suppressing for years, in order to be strong for her friends. Within a month, Faith had revealed that she was interested in women as well as men, that she was nearly as experienced with women as with men.

A week later, just as they reached cruising altitude, Buffy declared that she too was interested in women. Before Faith could process this, B leaned forward and pressed her lips to Faith's. After a brief shocked moment, Faith responded, deepening the kiss, surrendering herself to the bond between them.

Now, when Faith and Buffy fight side by side or back to back, everyone agrees: they're really just dancing together.

A/N- so... You guys seem to like them. Some of the songs worked really well- this one as the ending was perfect- and some were harder to make work. Tough to keep them short, but a fun challenge. I'm very open to turning any of them into full-fledged stories; I've already had a couple of requests for #6, let me know what y'all think. And go read the rest of my stuff! I love seeing my hit count go up!
