Dawn entered her home, sans coat, and paused in the open doorway. Her head cocked, the length of her ponytail falling sideways as she stared at Illyria conversing—yes, conversing—with her new pet. She opened her mouth and then stiffened as Buttons, her German Shepard, struggled past her into the house, covered in ash and soaking wet. Blue eyes narrowed as she watched him track muddy prints across the carpet.

Illyria rose and stated, “We are leaving.”

“What?” She glanced back and forth between the mouse and Illyria, “Fine, whatever,” she stepped aside, let them leave before growling, “Buttons!”

“It’s Lyri, Lyri and the Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain.”
