The steady ache between her shoulder blades was increasing and Dawn shifted, adjusting her daughter to a more comfortable position on her hip and the slight jostle woke her. Long lashes fluttered as Melinda—Mindy to the core Scoobies—opened her wide blue eyes and yawned, “Hello, Lady.”

Dawn sighed and instantly corrected, “Mommy, sweetie. My name is Mommy.” Her only answer was a knowing smile before Mindy dropped her head back onto her shoulder.

Blinking down at the pale blonde hair covering the crown of her three year old daughter’s head Dawn struggled not to frown and instead finished making her way across the lawn spanning the back of the institute Giles’ had helped create. It had taken ten years after the fall of Sunnydale, but they had finally obtained complete control over the Council and all its assets.

“Dawnie!” She turned with the shouting of her name and watched, perplexed as Buffy made her way toward to her with a very large, very chicken-like creature in people clothing following her. “Come meet the new Watcher.”

“Buffy,” she waited till her sister frowned and her brows rose before she stated, “That’s a chicken.”

“Dawnie, don’t be obtuse.”

“The hell?”
