“So, Dawn’s been kidnapped again,” Buffy said, frowning as she stared at the swirling blue surface of the mystical portal. “Must be Tuesday. Okay, who’s with me for the rescue?”
“Made a promise, didn’t I?” Spike reminded her. “I’ll come.”
“Count me in,” Xander volunteered. “Anything for the Dawnster.”
“Oh! And me,” Willow said. “You might need a witch. Especially to get back.”
“The four of us, then,” Buffy said. “Let’s move, before the portal closes. Sitting Bull!”
“That’s ‘Geronimo’, you daft bint,” Spike corrected her, and followed her through the portal. Willow and Xander were only a step behind.- - - - -
Jack O’Neill strolled into the Stargate control room. “What’s going on, sir?” he asked General Hammond. “I heard the ‘Unscheduled Gate Activation’ alarm a few minutes ago but nothing since.”
“I don’t know much more than you,” Hammond replied. “There were two impacts against the iris shortly after the Gate opened. We still haven’t received any IDC.”
Jack winced. “Unmanned probes?”
“We just don’t know,” Hammond said. As he spoke there were two more impacts against the iris, a pause, and then two more.
“Crap,” Jack muttered. The Gate shut down.
Hammond sighed. “May God have mercy on their souls.”
