The beacon lit the sky exactly one year later.

A call to destiny, to pick up arms, its meaning ingrained in every part of their culture. Everyone knew The Oracle a sign for the Chosen One.

Something inside her felt physically wrong as she watched Colette walk away to answer the summons in the temple. This was the younger girl’s path, one that only she and she alone could walk to save the world. Involuntarily Mello felt her feet moving forward. It’s like there was a part of that had been waiting her entire life to take up this mantle and she’s been living in a dream.

She came back to reality with the realization she’d actually risen, pushing herself away from her desk in the old school house. It shocked her out of whatever had come over her. This was Colette’s work.

Mello, like every other ordinary Joe, didn’t have a destiny. She had an unremarkable future, marriage and old age to look forward too. She was the same as everyone else in their little village.

Only...she wasn’t.

Her reflexes were good. She instinctively handled tactics better than most and a weapon hasn’t crossed her hands that she didn’t like the look of. Only Lloyd beat her at swordplay.

And no one matched her fashion sense.

She might not be the Chosen One but Colette is her friend and she’s won’t be alone.

A/N: I had plans to spin this off into a full story that never took off. I saw it sitting here all half finished and dug out the next two chapters. At the time I also rattled of one more then forgot about it. Stumbled on it today, decided it really was done. Its short enough I figured they can all go up in one swoop. Thanks for reading!
