Sharper than a Serpent's Kiss.
I had showed my fangs as a calculated risk. Miss Emma recoiled away from me as I had expected her to.
"Wha-what are you?"
"You know what I am. It is bound into your very bone and marrow, know yourself and you shall know me."
"V-vampire? You're a vampire?"
"Very good! I told the moon you were a bright girl. I had faith."
"And I'm a vampire slayer."
"Right as rain!" I couldn't help clapping my hands in glee, "So bright, you could be a beacon on top of a pole."
"Then that means I should be slaying you...or you should be killing me...Why did you save my life...twice?"
"Well I am all out of sorts with my beast. It isn't terribly fond of me at the moment, and contrariwise, I have never been to keen on it. I suppose I'm just like any other girl, taking the wind out of those that would leash her."
"Your beast?" She seemed curious now. Not at all fearful. I could feel the Slayer in her just under her skin and behind her eyes. It was hungry, but also knew I wasn't a threat at this moment.
"Yes, my beast. When a vampire is created by the exchange of blood, a nasty form of demon is called into the host, " I pointed at myself, "When that happens, the soul is popped out and goes to wherever lost stockings go I'd imagine...or at least some place away far away. The memories stay behind however so that the demon has some sort of personality, apart from the constant desire to consume human blood and terrible hygiene for the most part of course. The longer a vampire survives, the more access to the body's memories it gets. And the new creature formed is half-demon and half-human, dead but animate, a vampire."
"So that's why that thing..."
"G'naatar demon, terrible dull, not very smart, and remarkably violent; especially to monkeys, I never have found out why...perhaps I should?"
"Whatever...G'naatar demon?" I nodded, "Called you a half-breed."
I pouted slightly and nodded again, "And it was awfully rude of him to say that. G'naatar's have
no manners at all."
"So your beast..your demon? Is mad at you and is leaving the human part running your body?"
"Not exactly. You see, right before I became a vampire, the one who changed me drove me completely mad. My beast is now just as mad as I, for what would be more insane than a vampire that helps those that would kill vampires? Now come along. There's a nice café up ahead where we can get lemonade...my treat."
