Notes: Same 'Verse as Inevitable

Andrew Wells sat, hiding, in the back of his closet and sulked about the injustice of it all. As a founding member of the New International Watcher’s Council, he had been granted the honorable and illustrious title of Sheriff by the community of vampires outside of the malevolent and dangerous influence of the Hellmouth. However, having a cool title did very little for his position within the Watcher-Slayer hierarchy. Young Slayers had very little respect for titles granted by vampires and even less respect for the man who did all the cooking in the Slayer House.

He pushed around the contents of his closet to try and find a more comfortable position. His hand brushed against a hard, cloth-covered case and he dragged it into his lap to try and remember what it contained. To Andrew’s surprise and delight, inside the case was the video camera that he had carried everywhere during the final days of Sunnydale and smuggled onto the bus just in case. He hadn’t touched the camera since the destruction of the Hellmouth because things were simply too busy and tempers were still too frayed…plus Buffy had threatened to destroy it if she saw the camera again.

Andrew rewound the micro-cassette currently in the camera back a few minutes worth of tape and pressed play. The first person to pop up on the small fold-out screen was Anya. He watched her move for a few second before pausing the playback on an image of her smiling brightly. His heart ached at the sight of the woman who had given her life to save him from an uber-vamp in the hall of the rebuilt Sunnydale High School. His guilty mind momentarily overlaid her whole and happy self with that of her wounds as she took her final breaths. Tears slipped down his cheeks as he pressed play on the video again to watch some of her final moments alive. She hadn’t liked him very much and she certainly hadn’t respected him but Anya had always treated him with the same kindness that she treated everyone else. For that, he still loved her as a sister.

Even now in his head, Andrew could hear her voice scolding him for his extended pity party. Telling him to get over his little hurt feelings and behave like a man instead of an overgrown toad thing. The thought brought a watery smile to his face and he finds the courage to make a new resolution. He’s let the Mini-Slayers walk all over him and treat him like dirt for too long. It was time to stand up for himself and put to rights the injustices that have been done.

Author's Note: Andrew was uncooperative. He was supposed to give the story of what happened after the collapse of the Hellmouth but I guess that will have to be another story.
