Pevensie walked through a cloud of dust with a grin on her face. She made sure to have her mouth closed and not breathe in.
"Showoff," Draco muttered from where he was sitting atop a headstone. "You ready to head back? I'd like to be in bed before midnight tonight."
"All right, grandpa. Be sure to take your dentures out."
Draco was about to retort when someone interrupted their banter.
"At last I find you with only a meager girl for protection. Dinner and dessert."
Draco frowned and turned. There was a guy standing there. Looked like any other guy, but he was wearing a really tacky necklace.
That looked vaguely familiar.
Draco swallowed nervously. "Pevensie... run."
"What? No way. Not leaving you."
"I will be running as well," he said as he moved swiftly, grabbing her arm.
He didn't get far. His shirt was grabbed and he was tossed aside. Draco was on his feet by the time the guy he was beginning to think was not entirely human approached him.
"I am so going to enjoy this. I hope Zabini goes mad from your loss."
"Beg your pardon?"
"I'm going to kill you, Malfoy, and leave your broken body for Zabini to find because you are the most important to him. He thinks he's so much better than the rest of us. He refused my sister a potion because she could not pay the price. My sister died. Now you die because my sister was the most important person in my world."
The guy shot a bolt of purple that hit Draco in the gut, sending him flying. As he landed hard, he heard Pevensie screaming. Draco shook himself out and got to his feet. He sent a vicious blasting hex towards the man. He grabbed a twig off of a nearby tree and did an engorging charm on it before tossing it to his slayer.
Pevensie caught the now staff-sized bit of wood and spun it viciously to get a feel for the weight before attacking. She kept Buffy's advice in her mind. Mix it up. Don't be predictable.
Draco watched, ready to assisted if she needed it. The attacker landed a punch to Pevensie's ribs that had her screaming in pain. When he did that, Draco noticed the amulet around his neck glowed bright purple. That had to be the power source.
"Amulet!" Draco shouted.
Pevensie nodded. That was her target.
The guy turned and threw another bolt of energy as Draco that knocked the watcher into a stone monument with impressive force, but Draco rose on unsteady feet. He pointed his wand and started throwing some of the nastiest shit he could recall from his days as a Death Eater. He was trying to get the fellow weak enough for Pevensie to take that amulet out of the mix, even the playing field a bit.
Suddenly, he left arm felt like it was on fire. The mark was burning again. Draco shouted in pain and doubled over a bit. That allowed his opponent to punch him quite solidly in the jaw. He slumped to the ground unconscious.
Pevensie was now a mixture of enraged and worried. She jabbed her opponent in the back with the staff. When the guy turned to go for her again, she jabbed the makeshift staff against the bauble resting on his chest as hard as she could. It shattered giving off a magic shock-wave that knocked her on her ass.
The guy gave a cry that was not human at all.
Pevensie scrambled to her feet because he had turned and went after Draco's prone form. Though hurting from what she was sure were cracked ribs at the very least, Pevensie ran and used a headstone as a vault. She flipped through the air over what she now suspected was a demon and landed in a crouch between him and Draco with her weapon clutched in both hands.
She came up swinging. As she danced back to avoid his fists, the demon said something unexpected.
"You know Zabini is going to be pissed that you destroyed the amulet he loaned me."
Pevensie went still in shock. The staff was knocked from her hands and the next thing she knew she had taken a fist to the face that had her seeing stars. That was the first of many. It was all she could do to try and block. He was still strong.
She stumbled to the ground, still trying to put herself between Draco and the demon.
