A Meeting of the Minds
April 12, 2005 9:52 AM
"Ah, Chief Inspsector. How very good to see you." He sized up the young girl ho had followed the other man in. "Hello," He trust out his hand. "Rupert Giles."
The sullen teenager sulked forward and shook Giles hand, squeezing. "Verity."
Giles knew immediately that this was the slayer that Moody had mentioned. "Lovely to meet you."
"Don't mind her," Moody stated. "She's just stroppy because I can still knock her on her arse when we spar."
"Not all of us have wooden legs that we can use as clubs."
"Perhaps if we were more vigilant, we wouldn't run afoul of our grandfather's leg." He turned toward Giles. "And I'm retired."
Giles smiled and responded, "Of course. Perhaps we can remedy that. Have you given any further thought to our offer?"
Giles and Moody had discussed at length their interests in each other after the business at their ministry following Willow's release; Moody had come away with a job offer and a promise for discretion in regards to the slayer he had mentioned. He had responded with a promise to consider it and to allow him to discuss it with the aforementioned slayer, whom he had been training.
"I have. As I mentioned the other day," he said, mainly for Verity's benefit, having not been in that meeting, "I have been looking into your organization, and I have had incredibly glowing reports as to you and your senior staff... And I should mention that I rang up the Americans as well."
Giles nodded. He had received an interesting email from the Secretary of Sorcery herself, giving him a "heads up" that Moody had inquired about the Council.
"I believe that I can bring a little something... Extra to your organization that you may be missing, as well as assist you in your difficulties with the Ministry for Magic. I also believe that Verity will be better educated here than she would be were I to be her sole teacher, as does she. We do request her being allowed to complete her fifth year at Hogwarts, and then see where we stand in July or August. If necessary, we can complete her wizarding education here, between myself, Miss Penshaw, and young Morag. Anything we cannot cover, we should be able to find suitable tutors for."
Giles replied, "Yes. We should be able to accommodate you, provided Verity comes to us on the weekends until this term of school is completed."
"Fair enough, Moody responded. "Verity?"
"I suppose that will work." Verity sounded slightly despondent.
"Perhaps I should have one of the Girls come up and give you the tour while your grandfather and I sort out the details," Giles suggested.
She brightened a bit at that.
Giles looked at his instant messenger screen, and selected Vi's avatar. He sent a message down, and moments later, there was a knock at the door. "Hello? Mister Giles?"
"Ah, Vi. Please, come in. This is Verity. She will be joining us here and I was wondering if you could give her the five pence tour."
"Sure thing," she replied, beckoning the younger girl towards her.
Verity looked over at her grandfather.
Verity stood and left the room with Vi.
Once the door was closed behind them, Giles asked, "So, what did you have in mind for your Salary?"
