The Slayer HQ, Cleveland, Ohio, November 1st, 2008.

Muffled groans filled the room of the sleeping man as he tossed and turned in his bed. His sweat soaked face contorted as he witnessed a discussion between a middle-aged man, who had been treated for his injuries and a man with yellow eyes, that made his stomach clench painfully. The injured man was offering his own life and an old revolver for the yellow-eyed one in exchange for the yellow-eye’s promise to stop the reaper from claiming his eldest son.

The yellow-eyed one gleefully accepted the deal and just before the hand he had reached out to grab the injured man by his throat made contact the initiator of the deal looked directly at their unknown witness as time seemed to stop.

“Boy, protect my sons for me… I can’t do it anymore,” came the plea from the man as his brown eyes locked to the witnesses’ single brown one.

The witness was shocked though he of course knew the man who was asking for his help. After all, he would not have survived this long if he had not gained the man’s memories and skills during the faithful Halloween-incident years ago.

“I will John,” the witness replied; “After all, they’re family and we look out for our family.”

Time returned to normal and as the yellow-eyed one’s hand made contact with the injured mans throat everything flashed white. And in his bedroom at the Slayer Academy in Cleveland Xander Harris awoke from his nightmare shaking and covered in sweat.

“That was weird…” he muttered and for the rest of the night he could not sleep as his mind tackled the information from his dream.

Slayer HQ, Cleveland, Ohio. November 15th 2008.

Two weeks. That’s how long it had taken him to get his affairs in order so that he could leave his position as a watcher of the Watcher’s council (as well as his secret job as a cleaner and troubleshooter, that only a select few such as Robin and Giles knew about) behind. While packing away the last of the possessions he was going to take with him on his trip, planning on leaving the rest behind since he didn’t know if he’d return his thoughts drifted on to the past.

Oh, he knew who the man in his dream had been. After all, he had held the man’s memories from his birth to the Halloween Day in 1998 when he had dressed up as a soldier and had fallen victim to a major magical-prank from a visiting chaos mage.

Those memories had been invaluable for his survival during his time in Sunnydale, his home-sweet-hell as well as his road trip and later on when he tracked down the newly awakened Slayers first in Africa, then in Vietnam and so forth. Of course memories had only gotten him so far even if John Winchester had been a pool of knowledge about supernatural, occults, artifacts as well as fighting skills, weapons and some seedier aspects of life such as how to keep yourself in cash via credit card frauds and other methods. But he had not gotten any physical benefits out of the deal, so it had taken him a long time to get himself in the proper physical condition.

Xander shuttered at the memory of the Wendigo he had stumbled on when he had been visiting Yellowstone during his road trip after the whole mess with Mayor Wilkins and the high school graduation. If not for John’s knowledge and his newly acquired tools he would not have survived the ordeal. Wendigos were truly disgusting creatures, they did not die of old age, often hibernated for long periods of time and were notoriously difficult to kill possessing speed, strength and built in claws. Their natural intelligence was nothing to scoff at either, since a Wendigo was once a human that when in the right conditions after resorting to cannibalism would transform into a monster. That flare gun had really saved his life back then.

It had not been easy back then. The fluke between himself and Willow had resulted in a lot of pain for all the people involved. He had virtually lost almost all the trust and respect he had had with his friends, resulting in him being pushed aside almost all the time. That had been a serious blow to his already weak self-confidence back then. Coupled with the loss of Cordelia, the woman he had loved and hated at the same time as well as his budding feelings for Faith, sleeping with her and the fact that she had tried to kill him and eventually ended up in a coma as well as the knowledge of not being able to get into a college had been enough to make him not want to return back when he had left Sunnydale.

The truth was that he had almost not come back at all. It had taken him five long months to heal from all of the emotional wounds and Xander still thanked many of the people who had unknowingly helped him. Strangely enough his unofficial method of gaining money when the car he had gotten from his Uncle Rory had broken down when he had been in Oxnard had helped him the most. Granted Willow had eventually been able to coax that part of the story out of him despite the fact that he had proclaimed that “no force in heaven or hell” would have gotten him to tell it. Of course even his unofficial sister didn’t know the full lengths Xander had gone to during the trip.

It was a fluke that he had been coaxed into stripping at the bar he had temporarily worked at in the first place but it had helped his confidence that many women both young and a bit older had found him desirable. The money he had made in the side had not hurt either as he had been able to get a new car as well as buy better tools should he have encountered anything unnatural.

He had roamed the states for several months after that, sometimes staying for a day or two, sometimes a week often looking for similar bars for a limited employment. It had earned him a large enough nest egg that he had not been forced to try any of John’s more illegal methods. So he had drifted, worked at nights, dealt with the occasional monster of the day and made some friends in high places and many enemies in the lower ones. As a result he had eventually gotten in perfect physical condition.

After five months he had been called home by Joyce who had let him know that Faith had awoken from her coma. So he had raced back in hopes of being able to be there for her and perhaps make things alright between them only to find out he had missed his chance as Faith had fled after a failed attempt of switching bodies with Buffy. That had nearly gotten him to leave again but he had stayed because Joyce and Dawn had insisted.

Xander paused in his packing as the thoughts about Faith brought back a lot of memories and pain. He still loved her even after all these years, they had eventually formed a strong friendship but he had missed his chance as Robin, one of his now closest friends had swooped Faith out of her feet. A pang of quilt hit him. He should not have been thinking about Faith like that anymore. She was now married. Mrs. Faith Lehane Wood, the wife of his close friend and one of his best friends along with Buffy, Willow, Dawn and Robin. But it still did not help as it sometimes hurt to see the two together.

Xander sighed again. All of his friends now had stable lives. Buffy had married Harry, a powerful wizard from England. Both had led hellish lives because of their status as a chosen one. One lost many things while fighting the supernatural where as the other lost many things because of the manipulations of his teachers and friends he had trusted all because of a stupid prophecy. Harry Potter had earned his respect and had been the only one of Buffy’s boyfriends who had not gotten the Shovel-speech from him. The boy, now a man had been betrayed so many times that he had left the outdated wizarding community completely behind. The two had eventually met while in Germany and the rest had been a long but fulfilling journey. The two now lead the Slayer HQ in Scotland.
He sighed again. Willow had her Kennedy and the most powerful Wiccan witch and one of the best Junior Slayers had even adopted a daughter of another slayer who had died before they had been able to locate her. Faith had Robin and they were happy leading the HQ in Cleveland. Dawn was dating Andrew, who had come a long way from the science geek and was now almost as good as either himself or Robin. The two were now leading the HQ in Rome.

Even Giles was happy, spending time between each of the centrals as well as the Main Headquarters in London. It would not be long before two of his adopted daughters would make him a grandfather. Only Xander was still alone.

He had lost Cordelia, Faith, Anya and Renee. Out of all four, the loss of Cordy had been the hardest for him. She had left for LA and had eventually joined up with Angel and his crew. Xander cursed at that. If she had stayed away, perhaps she’d still be alive. But instead she had been screwed over by the Powers That Be and had died alone in a hospital after a long coma when the entity Jasmine had used her to gain a mortal vessel to try and turn Earth into her kingdom. They had never gotten the chance to repair their broken friendship after that. A tear slid down his only good eye as he again thought about the “what ifs”…

With a sigh, Xander threw the last of his luggage together, gathered them and his orange and black tabby-cat and made his way downstairs, stopping only at the dining room table to leave behind a letter of resignation from his position among the Watchers and a personal letter to Giles.

Silent as a ghost he made his way out of the door and to his car, depositing the last of his luggage in before heading off to the graveyard on the premises.

Slayer HQ Graveyard, Cleveland, Ohio. November 15th 2008.

Xander spent an hour and a half sitting in front of graves of his unofficial adopted mother Joyce Summers as well as the graves of Cordy, Anya and Jenny Calendar, his adopted big sister and Giles’ love of a lifetime and Renee, his latest lover. All four graves were empty. The bodies of Joyce, Jenny and Anya having been lost during the destruction of Sunnydale and Cordy’s body had vanished from LA. Only Renee’s grave held her remains as she had died on a routine patrol that had gone south.

He talked to them and felt the need to explain why he was leaving. He told them how proud he was of his sisters and his friends and as he felt the morning breeze ruffle his hair he swore he heard Joyce’s voice telling him that she was proud of him, her son as well.

With a small smile on his face he left the graveyard, a small bouquet of flowers now decorating each grave. He made his way back to his ’67 Ford Mustang that is loaded with many concealed weapons from swords, daggers and axes to modern firearms and weapons.

Taking one last look at the mansion that had been his home for the last 3 years he got in his car and drove away, missing three pairs of eyes and the sadness in them as they see their friend leaving them.

Unknown Bedroom, Slayer HQ, Cleveland, Ohio. November 15th 2008

The brown eyes of the stunning brunette followed the leaving car until it was no longer visible. A single tear made its way down her cheek as one of her closest friends had left. Faith Wood felt that she had lost another part of her life. She was happy with Robin and the baby they would have in the future but it was not the same without her friend here. Sometimes she could not help but think how things would have been if she had chosen differently.

“Don’t stay away too long Lex. Your family still wants you here…” she whispered, using the nickname only she was allowed to use while rubbing her belly, her pregnancy finally starting to show.

Her husband drew her into a hug and she leaned in him, enjoying the silent comfort he offered as her husband looked out the window. His friend was now gone, Robin knew that it had hurt Xander to see him with Faith but Xander had put his own feelings aside to ensure Faith’s and his happiness.

“Stay safe friend,” he whispered.

Rupert Giles’ Office, Slayer HQ, Cleveland, Ohio. November 15th 2008.

The older man looked at the car that is making its way away from their home carrying his adopted son away from him. Yet Giles or G-man as his son likes to call him couldn't help but feel proud of the young man who is loved by everyone.

“Take care of yourself son and don’t forget your family,” he whispered.

In heaven, many of the one-eyed man’s loved ones look down fondly on him knowing that he will be alright even though he still has a lot to do before he can rest.

As the song ends the car continues steadily towards California, the driver feeling drawn to the their for reasons that he can’t explain.

San Francisco, California, November 30th, 2008

A dark green Mustang drove around the streets of the sleeping city. The man had visited the ruined crater of his former hometown finally bringing closure to one of losses. Now he is simply cruising around.

His musings however were cut short when a figure flied from an alley and smashes through the window of his car and landed on his back seat. The one-eyed man studied his unwanted hitch-hiker and a sighed.

“Sorry bub, no fang-faces allowed,” he stated before driving a wooden knife through the still stunned vampires heart. The man then lamented on the fact that he now needed to vacuum the back seat before parking the car and heading towards the alley where the vampire had flown from on foot.

The two vampires standing in front of him and keeping an eye at the fight happening in the back of the alley never even saw him coming as he calmly stabbed both of them from behind and dusted them. The sound of the two being dusted halted the fight, giving the three women who all had been getting trashed around a breather while the rest of the vampires stared at the entrance to the back trying to figure out what was going on.

A quiet chuckle told them that someone was there as a man dressed in black boots, pants and a shirt but wearing a light-brown leather duster stepped out of the alleyway holding two iron-wood knives.

“Don’t you boys know that fair play is one on one, not four on one?” the man asked and some of the vampires actually whimpered when they saw the serious look in his eye. Eventually one of them recognized the eye-patch and what it meant.

“Ah shit, it’s Harris,” the vampire whispered and if it’s even possible all the vampires in the alley suddenly grew paler than before. Xander mere chuckled again. A simple “boo” is all that it takes to make the vampires flee. Sometimes it was good to have a bad-ass reputation, even if it meant he’d have to hunt the suckers down later on.

“Aah, now why would they be scared of lil’ old me?” he asked with a lopsided grin on his face.

The three witches known as the Charmed Ones all fell down in bewilderment and relief. The eldest of them, Prue looked the man in his eye and for some reason pleasantly intriguing shivers ran down her neck.
