And we're done! I originally intended to just have the five people and then decided, you know what...lets try it the other way. :DJack Harkness
Graham wasn't sure what, exactly, was going on. He knew the Council had been cooperating with the remnants of a British born organization called Torchwood, founded by Queen Victoria herself. The “cooperation” had been going surprisingly well given how leery they typically were of new organizations; Xander kept mumbling something about beer being a very bad break the ice idea whenever he asked.
This was the first time he'd been home since the shaky alliance between the two had been formed and Buffy, Willow, Dawn, and, Xander all seemed bound and determined to have a member of the group over for dinner while Graham was home.
Waiting for the guest to arrive and trying to figure out the scheme (and suspecting he knew what it was, even if he didn't want to admit it), he glanced to his left when Giles suddenly came over and sat down on the couch.
“You are aware the children are planning something, yes?” Giles asked, fiddling with his glasses. Graham nodded, looking at the man warily. He got on ten times better with Giles than Riley did, but, then again, he hadn't dated Buffy and broken her heart.
Graham had never had a real father figure before and Giles was as good as any he'd ever seen, not that he'd ever tell him that of course. It was one thing to privately wish he could be as close to the man as Xander was and another to openly admit it.
“Yeah, I figured when Dawn came to fashion critique me and made me change seven times,” he agreed dryly and Giles chuckled. “I'm just grateful it wasn't Buffy or I'd still be up there.”
“Most likely,” Giles agreed. He studied Graham a moment and then gave him a gentle smile. “I know we most likely haven't stated so in the past but you're family, Graham. And as such, none of the children like seeing their family alone or, as Dawn so, er, charmingly put it, celibate for too long.”
“I....what?” he asked, throat tight. Part of him had hoped that eventually the Scoobies would catch on and realize he considered them his family—bringing his boyfriends and girlfriends around was not something he did with friends—but to have the feeling be confirmed as mutual...
“They're trying their hand at playing cupid tonight,” Giles said, understanding in his eyes and a smile on his face. He lips twisted wryly. “As their last attempt at matchmaking a family member failed spectacularly, I felt I should probably warn you. We wouldn't want another Faith.”
“No, definitely not,” he agreed numbly, recalling the SNAFU with Faith and that guy from the SGC. Oh God, what were they thinking?!
The doorbell rang then, derailing any chance Graham had of trying to bail and before he knew it, a good-looking man in a World War Two great coat and suspenders was being ushered into the living room by a beaming Willow. Graham felt his mouth go dry; the outfit would have looked ridiculous on any other man but on him... He was doomed to turn into pre-Buffy Willow.
“Major Graham Miller, Army Ranger and our US military liason,” Willow said, bubbling happily as Graham got up off his seat. “This is Captain Jack Harkness, head of Torchwood 3 in Cardiff. You're both bi!”
Graham turned mortified and was resolutely not looking at the other Captain when the man chuckled. “Not usually the introduction I get,” he said and Graham snapped back at him when he recognized the accent. The Captain was grinning from ear to ear as he gave Graham an approving once over. “But I'll take it.”
As they shook hands, the other man idly thumbing the back of Graham's hand, he silently vowed, if this actually worked out and didn't go down in flames like Faith and Mitchell had, he would send Buffy and Dawn on a cruise. Willow would get that new shiny cauldron she'd been talking about that cost way too much for being a glorified bowl, and he'd give in and replace Xander's entire Star Trek collection since his went down with Sunnydale.
And considering how the other man was looking at him, he just might be held to that silent promise.
