: Jasmine and the Harry Potter universe belong to Joss Whedon and JK Rowling, respectively...and title is a quote from the movie Gladiator.
***"He disappeared after leaving school...traveled far and wide...sank so deeply into the Dark Arts, consorted with the very worst sort of our kind, underwent so many dangerous, magical transformations, that when he resurfaced as Lord Voldemort, he was barely recognizable." ~Albus Dumbledore, speaking of Tom Riddle
*** October 31, 1981"...he will have power the Dark Lord knows not..."
Staring into the expressive eyes of the innocent he intended to murder, the words of the prophecy seemed to reverberate within Voldemort's being; he knew they were correct. The dead woman on the floor was evidence this boy had love, something Voldemort had never experienced.
When Tom's mother had died, it was not because she loved him, that he was certain of. If his mother had loved him, she would have lived: lived to watch him grow, to comfort him after nightmares, to protect him from those who wished him harm, to teach him about his magic...But she had not loved him enough to live, and thus, had abandoned him to an existence full of misery and fear, loathing and loneliness. So yes, it was true Lord Voldemort had never known love, either as a boy or as a man, but he had wanted it, longed for it, all of his life.
Now love was finally within his reach, and he would not allow it to slip through his fingers. There would be no margin for error tonight. Reflexively, he tightened his grip on his wand, knuckles whitening as he raised it to point at the prophecy child's third eye. This is it,
he thought. Sacrifice...
"...the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches..."
There was a lingering flash of green light.
: I realize this is more of a teaser than an actual chapter, but still...review if you're interested.
