She frowns as she finds yet another strange scar. What started out as one last seduction before they part has now turned into a search and discovery mission. When she's with Rupert she's not Doctor Janet Fraiser, but Janet. However the scars littered all over Rupert's body brings the doctor in her back to the fore.
"Find something interesting?" Rupert asks, looking down at her.
She smiles and kisses his chest. "A few things," she says and then continues her exploration.
This is her third encounter with Rupert and all of them end the same way, so she's not comfortable asking him too many questions. For them both this is only casual, a release. They both live in different states and have different lives. Janet has Cassie while Rupert has three people he considers children in California. What they have here is simple, no strings.
Her first two encounters with Rupert were brief and that's the reason why she never noticed the scars until now. There was never time to savour their time together before today and Rupert kept her distracted enough that she never noticed his array of scars. What she sees here worries her. The last time she saw someone with this many scars was Colonel O'Neill during his last physical.
"I haven't seen a scar like this before," she says staring at a bizarre bite mark on his left leg. The fact that she's never seen anything like it turns her concern to fear.
"The last woman I told my secrets to left rather abruptly," Rupert tells her, a hint of sadness in his voice.
That doesn't reassure her in the slightest.
"Are you familiar with scars?" he asks.
"I'm a doctor." She's only slightly embarrassed that he doesn't this. Although now she wishes she did take the time to get to know him a little better.
The look on his face tells her he's thinking the same thing. "Oh. Do you work in a hospital or do you have your own private practice?"
"I work for the Air Force."
His face shuts down completely at her words and she instantly knows that this will be the last time she'll see Rupert Giles.
"I've seen a lot of scars, Rupert, and some of these..." She trails off and traces a long scar. "These are the scars of a man who has been tortured."
He stiffens at her words and she gets the answer she didn't want. Normally she wouldn't be this upfront but she knows he'll disappear now and ignore her calls, so there's really not much left to lose. For some reason she just needs to know what happened to him, who hurt him...
"I think it's time for me to go," he announces.
Janet sighs and feels a slight pang in her heart. Though this was casual, she really did like Rupert Gilles.
