‘Demon’ Central Station, Limbo Dimension

A member of the Ryth’niock clan sat down near a creature that looked like it could be related to him and asked, “So, everyone here is trying to find a new Earth to make home?”

“Yes, and it’s harder than you might think. Several of the available conduits lead to Earths that can defend themselves from non-human creatures. Some are worse than others,” his ‘cousin’ replied with a shiver. That trip to the ‘meta-human’ Earth chilled him to the vengoas.

“Tell me about it! Our Earth used to be such a wonderful place to live before those humans came along and ruined it with their filth and emotions,” their companion – a self-described ‘Old One’ – snarled in disgust. “Not to mention, they kept procreating so fast that they overwhelmed my kind before we even realized they were a threat.”

“Still, couldn’t you just eat them or something? I’ve never been to any Earth, but love visiting planets where I can get my hands on a satisfying meal,” inquired a Wraith who happened to close enough to eavesdrop.

The Old One shook its head sadly, “For a little while that worked. Then they found out how to harness the magick of the planet and use it against us. First, by trapping several of our Elders in an inescapable prison called the Deeper Well. Second, they stole the essence of one of the most feared demon clans and infused it with a young female of their kind, turning her into a horrible killer. What makes it even worse, when we finally managed to kill the original, the magicks the humans used to create her jumped to another girl who kept on slaying us – which is why we started calling her the Slayer.”

Despite the fact nobody invited him to join the group, the Wraith sat down with them. “So what did you decide?”

“The brighter ‘demons’ – as the humans called us – figured it was time to check out other dimensions. Since we didn’t want the dregs following us, we hid the secrets of opening the portals where those idiots would never think to look for them. That way, even if they found the portals, the chances of the dregs opening ‘em would be slim-to-none.”

A truly wicked grin crossed the Old One’s face as it shared a secret with them. Since they were already on this side, it didn’t matter. “Then, for added security, we left some vicious beasts to guard our side of things. Anything that could get past those is either welcome to join us or dangerous enough to cause trouble.”

“And that’s why you’re looking for a different Earth to go to,” the Ryth’niock guessed.

“You got it.”

A/N: We keep thinking of this from the ‘good’ guys’ perspective, and Musie wondered what the ‘bad’ guys would say.
