Disclaimer: Sadly I own nothing. BtVS belongs to Joss Whedon and Harry Potter to J.K.Rowling.

Timeline: BtVS is set in the middle of "This year's girl", the 15th episode of the 4th season.

Harry Potter begins approximatively in the middle of the 5th book "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix".

A/N.: The first part of the Mayor's monologue is taken from “This year's girl”.

If you feel
so empty, so used up,
so let down
If you feel so angry
just get up!!!!

Riot - Three Days Grace

The dark room was suddenly lit when Faith put the tape left to her by the former Mayor of Sunnydale, and his voice began to flow from the speakers.

"Hello, Faith. If you're watching this tape, it can only mean one thing. I'm dead."

The slayer was silent watching, a stony expression on her face. On the inside she was a mess, anger, sadness, rage, desperation, too many emotions to identify.

"And our noble campaign to bring order to the town of Sunnydale has failed . . . Utterly and completely. But on the other hand, heck! Maybe we won." This was followed by his laughter. "And right now I'm on some jumbo monitor in the Richard Wilkins Museum surrounded by a bunch of kids sitting indian-style and looking up at my face, filled with fear and wonder. Hi, kids!"

The joke brought a smile on Faith's face, but it didn't last long because the monologue took soon a serious tone.

"But the realist in me tends to doubt it. Now, Faith, as I record this message you're, uh", Wilkins said with a pained expression "...sleeping. And the doctors tell me that you might never wake up. I don't believe that. Sooner or later, you will wake up and when you do, you'll find the world has gone and changed on you. I wish I could make the world a better place for you to wake up in, but . . . tough as it is to accept we both have to understand that even my power to protect and watch over you has its limits. See the hard pill to swallow here is that . . . once I'm gone . . your days are just plain numbered."

As she listened her thoughts went back to the welcome party she just received from B and Red; without a doubt by now all the Scoobies, and Buffy's newest boy toy, were searching everywhere for her. Realizing payback was out of the question for now and that she was screwed if she didn't plan something soon, she resumed watching, a sad look in her eyes.

"Now I know, I know you're a--you're a smart and capable young woman in charge of her own life. But the problem, Faith, is that, uh, there won't be a place in the world for you anymore. Right now I bet you're feeling very much alone. But you're never alone. You'll always have me. And... " He picked up a small black box from his desk and chuckling held it up for the camera. "... you'll always have this. Go ahead. Open the box."

With a puzzled expression Faith took the same box from the counter and looked closely at it.

“Don't worry. It's not gonna bite.” Then he added laughing “That's my job. “ and motioning with his hand “Go ahead! Open it!”

Her face upon sliding the panel of the box open and seeing its contents went from curious to dumbfounded and incredulous.

“Surprise! See, you don't get these in any gum ball machine. When you've been around as long as I have you make friends.”

Her only response was anticipated and interrupted “What the-” “-Now now, is that the proper language for a young lady?” leaving Faith speechless and her eyebrows almost touching her hairline.

“As I was saying I made some powerful friends and called in a few favors. This may look as a simple lighter, but it's much more. It's called Portkey. It's your one-way ticket to England. Touch it, say Fish and Chips and you'll instantly teleported outside the house of an old acquaintance of mine. Just tell him that you're my ward, he will know what to do.”

At this point the only word that left the girl's mouth was a sound “-fuck.”, but the video was still going showing Wilkins speaking with a sad smile on his face. “And here's the good news-- just because it's over for my Faith, doesn't mean she can't go out with a bang.” She responded with a sad smile of her own as if he could see her.

The end of the tape left the room bathed in darkness, but the slayer paid it no mind as she continued to toss the lighter between her hands. She opened it with a click, the flickering flame beaming as if mocking her.

“Well, at least now I just need cigs, after all that sleeping I've got a craving.” Faith commented with a smirk, but it didn't reach her eyes.

After a while she stood up, took a deep breath and stretched. “Here I go! Nothing to lose! Fish and Chips!” A tugging sensation behind her navel and she felt her feet touch the concrete. It took all her slayer grace to not fall on her ass; furthermore her insides weren't exactly cooperating.

She stood still a couple of seconds with her eyes closed to get her bearings and then she opened them and blinked a few times. “Fuck!” There was no other way to express what she was seeing.
