~*~*~Tara sat in the waiting room of Gotham General and did her best not to fidget in the uncomfortable chair. Watching the clock, she felt her world narrow to the black hand slowly moving across its white face, one slow minute after the other. She had rushed over here as soon as she had heard about Barbara being shot by the Joker while the madman was trying to kidnap the commissioner. Barbara had come out of surgery hours ago, but they were only letting family in, not panicked girlfriends.
Looking down at the toy she was squeezing tightly, Tara bit her lip as Batgirl’s pushie face smiled up at her, her dark colored uniform stark against Tara’s pale hands. Barbara had given this to her for as a joke last month, saying that Batgirl liked cute blondes. How Barbara knew this, Tara didn’t know, but she’d accepted the toy with a smile. Fighting back tears, she looked up as footsteps approached her. Her eyes widened slightly when she realized who it was.
Bruce Wayne had just walked in,
the Bruce Wayne. He stopped in front of where Tara was sitting, studying her intently through tired eyes. Tara did her best not to squirm under his gaze, clutching the Batgirl doll even harder. His eyes flickered to the toy before moving back to her face, something changing in his gaze too quickly for Tara to register. Then, without saying a word, he sat down next to her, joining her in her silent vigil.
