Jonathan Crane does not glare in this universe. He stares at you until you get uncomfortable and go away. It works on everyone but fangirls. And no, they’re not dating just yet.
“HI!” A face was only inches from his, and Jonathan would maintain that the surprised squeak certainly hadn’t come from him
, regardless of what Harry thought.
“Hello?” he said carefully.
“I’m Lizzy. I’m in your Chemistry class.”
“Congratulations. It hasn’t started yet.” And they were in the Ethics
classroom. He was helping Harry set up the classroom in return for Harry helping him set up his.
“Then why are you here?”
“Cause you’re awesome. Will you marry me?” Harry, who had been drinking from a water bottle, choked. Jonathan stared at him.
“Are you alright?” It wouldn’t do for his handler to die before the school year even started.
“Fine. That was awfully bold.” They both turned back to Lizzy, who was pouting.
“No,” Jonathan answered.
“Why not?” she asked.
“I have no interest in you,” Jonathan said.
“Oh.” Jonathan stared at her, trying to make her uncomfortable. Unfortunately, it gave her the wrong idea. “Oh. Oh
!” She looked between the two of them, squeaked, and ran out of the room.
“I do believe she thinks we’re gay for each other,” Harry said. Jonathan leveled a stare at Harry.
“Aw, hunny, you mean you don’t love me anymore?” Harry added in a few fake sniffles for good measure. Jonathan rolled his eyes.
Lizzy had apparently informed someone about her suspicions, as by the time Harry and Jonathan were done setting up the classroom, the whole building thought they were dating. Buffy caught up with them as they were walking in the hallway towards their apartments.
“So, you’re dating? Not that that’s bad or anything, cause it’s totally cool if you are, but don’t let it interfere with your handler duties.” She directed the last part at Harry.
“We’re not dating,” Jonathan said.
“Elizabeth Jordan seems to think you are.”
“Does she introduce herself as Lizzy?” Harry asked.
“She proposed to Jonathan here, and came away with the wrong conclusion when he turned her down.”
Instead of settling the matter, there was now a betting ring going around. Bets included when they’d get together, when and where they’d have their first kiss, where they’d have their first date, and more.
“They automatically assume we’re going to get together,” Jonathan said.
“I’d say we should get fake girlfriends, but that’d just make the betting more popular. And probably add when we’d break up with the girls to the pool.” Jonathan snorted, and Harry continued. “If we ever do get together, we should have the first date be a picnic in the park, next to the fountain.”
“That’s where I put my bet. Of course, I had Megan make it for me. No sense in giving them anymore fuel.” There was silence for a moment before Jonathan spoke.
“I’d expect a little
more expense for a first date. I put my bet on a French restaurant.” Jonathan eyed Harry. “It better be a good one.” Harry grinned.
