Summer's End

Buffy chewed her lip as she looked down at her sister. Dawn hadn't stopped crying since Richard called her four days ago and broke things off.

He hadn't wanted to, Buffy knew that well enough; She'd been listening in on the phone calls like any self respecting sister. No, this had been under orders. His bitch of a lupa had told him that he needed to break things off or she was going to do some very unpleasant things to his family. And now that he was a lycan, he couldn't leave the area without his pack's permission.

“Dawn, oh god, I swear...”

“Richard, please, just...promise me something, okay?”

“Anything. Anything you want.”

“Promise me, that when you fall in love again, you'll never let her go, okay?”

Buffy was pretty sure she couldn't have done that. But sure as the rising sun, Buffy was going to get her sister together with that man once this whole thing was done. Even if she had to crack a couple were-skulls to do it! She and Angel were going to go in -because if Angel knew what was good for him he damn well better- and demand Richard as payment for slighting Dawn.

They could probably talk Drusilla into helping them out, the crazy vampire had a thing against Nikolaos and a protective streak when it came to Dawn. Implanted memories involving tea parties and playing dolls the right way. No, real memories, because memories of the heart were always more real than the thoughts of the mind.

How else would Buffy have remembered that spring day?
