Story: Ad Rem

I always loved seeing Rome vibrate with barely-leashed fury. Still do actually. There’s something about seeing a guy, who’s usually so in control of himself, nearly lose it that makes me want to keep pushing—just to find out when they’ll snap.

A pang flits through me at the thought of— I bite my lip sharply to draw myself back from the past and focus on Rome again.

“When I needed your ass, you weren’t there!” Rome yelled, getting in my face.

And that was my cue. “You know I tried to get conjugal visits, bro, but that fell through.”

I hear Bilkins’s choked-off gasp and see Rome’s mouth fall open in shock. His eyes catch mine and in the blink of an eye we understand each other like we used to. Before Rome went to prison and we lost touch.

“You’re always getting into trouble over women, Bri.”

I’m not even surprised that he says that, so I shrug and don’t look away, willing Rome to see the truth in my eyes. “Some things never change.”

End of “Ad Rem”.

A/N: In Dutch “ad rem” (Latin) means immediately being able to give clever, biting, astute comments on whatever subject you’re talking about, because you’re incredibly focused on said subject.

If you liked this short one-shot, let me know in a review, please. Flames will be severely mocked. Which you should know already, if you’ve read any of my other stories.
