Chapter 1: Lullaby and Goodbye

Bury me Alive.

Chapter 1: Lullaby and Goodbye.

Los Angeles, California;
November 21st 1997:

Angel stared into the blue eyes of his former sire and lover with a kaleidoscope of emotions as he ran a hand through her damp blonde hair.

"You're gonna be okay," he said, as he placed his hand over hers which laid on her swollen stomach. Darla chuckled bitterly and shook her head.

"No. No, I don't think so. Once he's gone, I won't be okay. I won't be okay at all. - I don't know what I'll be. “ She stopped and looked into Angel's brown eyes. “Angel... Our baby is gonna die right here in this alley. - You died in an alley, remember?" she asked, seeing the irony in it all.

"I remember."

"I wanna say I'm sorry. I wanna say it and mean it, but - I can't. - Aren't you gonna tell me it's okay?" she asked, smiling ever so softly and she wasn't at all surprised when he answered.

"No? It's really not, is it? We did so many terrible things together. So much destruction, so much - pain. - We can't make up for any of it. You know that, don't you." Angel sighed and nodded. He had hope that she and their child would be okay, why would the PTB protect their child just to let it die?

"Yeah,” he replied.

"This child - Angel, it's the one good thing we ever did together." Angel lifts Darla's hand between both of his and presses it against his lips. Darla can't help but fill her heart swell with emotions of love and regret before she continues.

"The only good thing,” she says and Angel buries his face in his hands, still holding onto Darla's, and takes a sobbing breath.

"You make sure to tell him that.” Darla moves to fast for Angel to stop her and he notices to late that she is holding one of the splinters of wood and buries it in her chest, gasping. Angel lifts his head and stares as Darla turns to dust. Where Darla was there is now a naked human infant lying in the rain, crying. The thing that shocks both Angel and Fred is that not only is there one baby but two.

“Twins,” Fred breathes out in shock and Angel carefully gathers up the first baby. Fred takes the time to gather the smallest baby up into her arms. Holtz steps through the hole in Lorne's wall into the alley. Lifts the crossbow and aims it at Angel as Angel slowly stands up, cradling the crying infant. Fred hands Angel's jacket back to him and he wraps it around the infant. While she uses her shirt – a larger cotton one which was actually Gunns. Holtz is watching them over his crossbow as Angel slowly turns his head and sees Holtz. For a moment they just look at each other. A Grapplar appears at the mouth of the alley behind them and Angel looks from it to the baby in his arms and Fred's – which have quieted down - to Holtz.

Angel's car pulls up behind two Grapplars at the other end of the alley and Wes gets out. Holtz slowly lowers his crossbow, still looking at Angel cradling the infant against his chest. After a moment Angel slowly walks past Holtz, Fred clinging to his right arm, the baby in her arms protectively wrapped in the shirt, leaving her in a simple white tank top. Holtz watches as Angel and Fred pass between the two Grapplars.

"Do it! Now's your chance. Do it! Finish it while you still can! You can't just let him walk away! Not now! Not after what you swore to me!" Sahjhan exclaims and Holtz shakes his head and watches as Fred and Angel get into the car.

"I swore that I would show no mercy.” He watches Angel's car drive away. “And I won't." he finishes before walking off. He would get his revenge, even if it was the last thing he did.

LA, Hospital;
November 22nd, 1997:

It had taken cunning and deception to get both children out of the hotel and too the doctor. They waited patently for almost half a hour before the doctor and a nurse carrying the babies come back out into the waiting room.

"I'm happy to report you have two healthy babies, though the girl is quite a bit smaller then her brother it is not unusual,” the doctor said, smiling.

"Oh, great. But I'm not the mother," Cordelia says, her hazel eyes bright at the fact the babies were healthy.

"Oh, I'm sorry.” He turns to Fred. “I'm happy to report you have a healthy baby boy and girl."

"Oh. Me neither."

"I'm afraid the mother is, ah, no longer in the picture," Wesley says.

"I see. Well, his height and weight are in the ninety percentile. We gave him his vitamin K and his PKU and he's doing very well. His sister is a little smaller as I said, around the eighty percentile but still healthy as long as she gains some weight in the next few months. We don't seem to have their - what's their names?" Cordy and Wes look at each other but are saved by Angel walking in.

"Connor and Cassidy. Connor Francis and Cassidy Jana," he answers, smiling as he approaches.

"Connor. Thank you. Mr. Angel,” the doctor says after looking at his papers. The nurses hand the babies to Angel as he continues. “And congratulations."

"Thanks." The Doctor and the nurse leave, as Angel smiles down at Connor and Cassidy.

"Hey...” He looks up confused. “Mr. Angel?" he asks, amused.

"Your first name is Liam," Fred spoke, smiling.

"We had to tell them something," Cordy said, shrugging.

"Liam Angel. You're a P.I. with a small practice. We just told them the name part. The rest is me, having fun." Fred nodded to herself and Angel smiled and chuckled before looking back down to the babies

"I don't know what to say."

"How about thanks. I appreciate it. You guys rock. Way to go?" Cordelia suggested. Angel looks up from Connor and Cassidy's face: "What she said." The double doors behind them open and Gunn comes in pushing an empty stroller.

"Got the best one a very small amount of money could buy." They all 'ah'd.' and Angel hands Connor over to Cordy who puts him in the stroller. Then he puts Cassidy in beside him, thankful she was so much smaller and fit.

"Hey, you wanna two go for a ride? Oh, goodness..." Cordelia asks and then looks at Angel in question.

“Francis and Jana?” she asks and Angel smiles.

“I think Doyle and Ms. Calender deserve a little remembrance. They both tried to help me and they both ended up dead,” he said and Cordy smiled.

"Connor and Cassidy. Those are lovely names. I don't suppose you ever considered Wes..." Wes began but was cut off by Gunn, Angel and Cordy.

"Not to be negative or anything, but - we're okay, right? Nobody else is coming after Connor, Cassidy or us?” Fred asks and Angel shook his head.

"No. We're safe for the time being. - Let's go home. Nice stroller." Angel says, adding the last part as a after thought.

"Thank you," Gunn replies and they walk out together, Fred and Gunn on the left, Cordy and Wes on the right, and Angel, pushing the stroller in the middle.

Los Angeles, California;
March 5th 1998:

Angel collapsed to the paved ground as the portals closed. One to a place unknown and the other to Qourtoth. Fred approached him slowly as his shoulders shook with sobs and tears leaked from his eyes. She slowly placed a hand on his shoulder and knelled down, tears falling from her eyes. Gunn stood back and watched silently, his eyes sad and tearing at the thought of those two bright lively babies which were now gone, maybe forever.

“They're gone, Cassi, Connor...” Angel muttered and Fred placed a hand under his chin and made him raise his chin. As she stared into his deep chocolate eyes which were in despair she couldn't help but remember when she first met him and what attracted her to him. Part of her had begun to love him more then in a platonic way and part of her always would but they were all her boys in some way or another. Gunn and her were more then friends, and she suspected everyone knew and though Wesley seemed to have some feelings for her she couldn’t and wouldn't let it damage what her and Gun had.

“There is still hope Angel,” she said and resting on her knees and she leaned her petite body into Angel's and was happy when the larger vampire leaned into her almost like a child letting their mother comfort them. She stroked his hair and rocked back and forward as his head lay on her chest and her chin rested on the top of his head.

“What if there isn't?” he asked and Fred shook her head.

“We won't give up, we'll get Cassidy and Connor back if it is the last thing we do,” Fred said and kissed his head. She had never seen him so hurt, not even when that Buffy girl had died.

“Yeah man, we'll get the little peanuts back or Wolfram and Hart won't know what hit' em. Hell, the PTB can kiss their asses goodbye,” Gunn said as he came to stand behind them in a attempt to lighten the mood but both could tell he was deadly serious.

“Come on Angel, let's get you home,” Fred said and Angel weakly allow himself to be helped up by Fred and Gunn though he was almost catatonic as he held onto Fred. Fred could only hope they found a way to get the babies back or Angel might never recover. If they didn't get the babies back she feared they'd be having three funeral's and not two. She hoped they didn't have any.

London, England; Godric's Hollow
December 24th, 1979:

Justine blinked as she landed standing in a small village like town and outside a large two story house with a large yard and high black gate. She blinked and looked around, it was probably winter and around ten at night. She looked behind her and thought of the portal and Holtz. Looking down at the baby girl in her arms she glared and rolled her eyes. The child was awake and glaring up at her with the blue eyes of a newborn, having still not changed colors yet if they even would. Looking at the house in front of her she tilted her head as she saw a lithe and elfin looking red head inside in a green sweater and jeans. She seemed to be cleaning from what she saw through the window.

“She definitely didn't want this baby on her and as long as Angelus didn't get the babe then Holtz' revenge was complete. Nodding to herself she crept through the gate which was part way open and up to the front door before laying the baby on the door step and looking at the bell. She bit her lip and seeing the snow falling and realizing how cold she was she rolled her eyes and pressed the bell once before taking off in a run. She was out of sight by the time the door was opened by the redhead inside.

Lily gasped at the sight in front of her. A little baby wrapped in nothing more then a thin pink blanket and with a pair of think pink pajamas looked up at her crying with tear filled eyes. She coo'd as she reached down and brought the babe to her chest. She quickly shut the door as she brought the baby inside and not taking her eyes off the now quieting baby she yelled for her husband.

“James!” James was fast to answer as he came into the living room and stopped short. He had thought he heard a baby's cry but had put it down to imagination at the news his wife of a year was pregnant with what he was sure was a son. He blinked and smiled at his wife teasingly, his hazel eyes locking with her emerald green.

“Lily I don't know what your parents told you about baby's but they don't just appear out of nowhere even in the Wizardry world,” he said, and chuckled at his wife's look of outrage.

“James be serious for one moment.” Lily rolled her eyes as he opened his mouth to speak a smirk on his lips.

“Not that Sirius! I found her on our doorstep,” she said as she walked into the kitchen and sat her down on the table and took of her hat to see pale blonde hairs and unwrapped her from the cold damp blanket.

“Who would leave a baby on a doorstep in a down poor of snow?” James asked as he looked down at the baby as Lily rushed around to heat up a bit of the milk they had in the fridge. It wasn't formula but it would have to do Lily mused as she tested bottle on her wrist.

“I don't know James, but what are we gonna do?” she asked as she reached for the baby. James picked Cassidy up and placed it into his wife's arms and watched with a smile as Lily fed the baby. He blinked as he saw a silver locket around the baby's neck and picked it up, turning it around he saw a name in script. Cassidy Angel.

“Cassidy last name,” James said and Lily smiled and shook her head.

“It's a lovely name, but you didn't answer my question.” James sighed and as bright baby blue eyes looked up at him he sighed and a idea came to him.

“We could adopt her? Who ever left her didn't want her and Harry might like having a older sister,” James said and Lily smiled and took the bottle away from the babies pink lips and began to burp her.

“How do you know it's a boy, it could be a girl. Maybe Rose would like a older sister?” Lily suggested smiling and James chuckled.

“Potter's are almost always boys,” he said smugly before shaking his head and taking Cassidy from his wife and finishing the burping for her.

“We'll go to Dumbledore tomorrow and he can help us get the adoption underway. We'll need a blood adoption potion and then a trip to Gringotts to set up her trust vault and inheritance,” he said and Lily smiled and kissed the babies practically bald head.

“How old do you suppose she is?” Lily asked and James shrugged as he righted Cassidy in his arms.

“She's no older then three months I'd say. To small to be any older. We'll mark her birth date as October 13th to be sure,” he replied and she nodded before taking out her wand and pointing it at the pink blanket on the table. She waved it intricately saying a few words and the blanket became dry and looked more expensive. The plan scratchy cotton became the good stuff and a lighter pink. Along the edges was sky blue silk and inside was her name. Cassidy Angel Potter in light green silk.

“Welcome to the family, Cassidy Angel Potter,” James said and they both left the kitchen for the room which was to be their nursery and was once James'. For now it would be Cassidy's and then Harry's and Cassidy's.

A/N: A new story, probably not the best idea at the moment but the plot bunny wouldn't shut up. I also created a new timeline. HP stays the same but Buffy and Angel changes - BTVS is from 1993-1995 and Angel begins in early 1996 - 2001 and on if so be. This is a Connor has a Twin thing and unlike Connor she was sent through a different portal with Justine to the past. Her PB is Hayden Panateirre (probably spelled wrong but close enough).
