It had just been a drunken mistake in Vegas.

And what happened in Vegas was supposed to stay in Vegas, right?

Staring down at the two parallel lines marking the narrow plastic cylinder she was holding with a mixture of apprehension, dread and anticipation, the strikingly beautiful young blonde allowed the breath she'd unconsciously been holding in, to escape in a long sigh composed of a complex blend of acceptance, satisfaction, uncertainty and the slightest tinges of mind-numbing fear and apprehension at the future the test's result predicted.

Carefully placing the cylinder on the bathroom countertop, she made her way into her bedroom and sat down on the edge of her bed, where she spent an indeterminate period of time simply allowing the myriad thoughts in her head to cascade wildly inside her skull until they finally subsided into a semblance of stillness and composure by an act of will she'd at first thought she was incapable of.

Finally, once she'd settled upon a plan of action, she picked up her phone and dialed '411.'

When the clearly artificial voice on the other end of the line finally answered, "AT&T 411 information. Clearly state your city and state," she then spoke with a calm deliberation.

"Sunnydale, California…"

As the opening riff of Blue Oyster Cult's 'Don't Fear The Reaper' shattered the early morning silence of his apartment, Xander Harris grumpily realized he'd made it into bed after patrol only two short hours earlier and gotten nowhere *near* enough sleep!

Blearily grabbing for his phone, he growled, "Whoever you are, this had better be *really* important news, to be waking me up at this time of the morning."

After a moment's hesitation, a semi-familiar female voice that inexplicably brought thoughts of pole-dancing and body shots to mind asked, "This is Alexander Harris, isn't it?"

"Yeah, it is," Xander growled with more than a little trace of annoyance. "Who's this?"

"This is Samantha Spade," came the quiet response to his irritated demand, causing Xander’s heart to almost literally stop for a moment as recognition of that name abruptly kicked in.

"We met in Las Vegas a couple months back…"

What happens in Vegas should stay in Vegas…

But sometimes, it doesn’t.
