They stood alone in the once densely populated village.

“I do not understand it, Colonel. Never have I seen a culling that took so many.” Teyla’s voice held the dismay they all felt.

John sighed, running a hand through his hair.

“We’ll have to take it back with us,” John stated, although there really wasn’t any other option.

They all paused to look at the ‘it’ in question. Ronon pulled a face as the infant in his arms took a deep breath and begin wailing even louder.

If the tragedy of the situation hadn’t been so great, the expression of pure horror on Rodney’s face would have made John laugh out loud.

John sidled up behind Rodney. Waiting until the child looked in their direction, he smacked Rodney round the back of his head.

“Ow.” Rodney spun and glared at him. John shrugged as the child continued to cry. “What did you do that for!”

“What? It always makes them laugh in the movies.”
