Disclaimer: I do not own Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Blade in any of its iterations. This story is based on Blade (the movies). There are no real spoilers here, but it is set after Chosen and after the third Blade movie.
Warnings: none, except maybe mild expletives.
“What the hell is this, Giles?” Buffy demanded, her voice rising in rage.
Giles felt a trickle of fear. Sometimes he forgot how dangerous Buffy was, just what she was capable of. At times like these, however, he was all too aware.
“What are you talking about, Buffy?” he asked.
“This,” she said.
She dropped a file on his lap.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” she demanded.
“Why didn’t I tell you what?” Giles opened the file, as he spoke and began to read. “My God.”
“You’re telling me this is news? You didn’t know there were other kinds of vampires?”
“I didn’t know, Buffy. There’s a great deal of disturbing information that I’ve unearthed since we took over the council, but I promise I would have told you about something like...”
“You mean there’s more?” she interjected.
“The council had its hands in a lot of questionable projects. They made deals with people we’d never make even consider making deals with. They hid things I think they should have told the slayer about.”
“Like these vampires?”
“Them and others too. There’s so much here, I’m afraid it’s going to take us a long time to glean the requisite information from the records,” said Giles.
Buffy shook her head at Giles, looking amused. She was going to say something teasing, but he beat her to it.
“I haven’t a clue how far down it goes, Buffy. I just know there’s a whole world we weren’t aware of.”
“Again?” said Buffy. “I thought we’d seen everything that went bump in the night.”
Giles didn’t say anything. What he was discovering in the files of the old council shocked and angered him. There was a lot in the files that would make Buffy very angry.
“Why wouldn’t they tell us about this?” Buffy asked. “They’re as dangerous as anything we’ve fought.”
“It looks like they’re politically powerful too. I suspect they didn’t think they could go up against anything that powerful with only one warrior,” said Giles.
“Then how…” Buffy pulled a single photograph from the pile and dropped it in front of Giles. “…do you explain this?”
The image was of one man, dark-skinned, muscular and fierce. A soldier. He wore leather and body armor, and carried a sword.
“His name is Blade,” said Buffy. “We need to talk to him. Maybe we can offer him some help instead of jumping in where we know nothing.”
“That’s a radical idea, Buffy...”
“Well, he has managed to take down some of the biggest forces in their world. We don’t have to make the mistakes the US Army made with our world. If he knows how to deal with them, maybe instead of storming in and taking over, we could offer to help, see what comes of it? I mean, he’s gotta be doing something right. World’s still here, right?”
“I didn’t say it was a bad idea,” said Giles, smiling up at her. “Just that we need to be careful. If he’s powerful enough to do what you say, he’s got to be bloody dangerous.”
“He’d better be,” Buffy said, admiringly. “If the other vampires are as powerful as this file suggests… He’s gotta be one hell of a warrior.”
