Cordy managed to stake two vampires on her own; a huge improvement over the group slaying she did with the Scoobies back in Sunnydale. Guess training did help after all. Especially training with a vampire who wouldn’t actually kill if you screwed up. Which begged the question of why they never asked Giles to train them if they were going to patrol.

Before she could think too much more about the painful reminders of her past life, Cordy caught movement from a nearby tree and fell into a defensive stance that Angel taught her. “Who’s there?” she demanded.

“I know what’s happened to you,” a tiny woman replied carefully, stepping out of the shadows with her hands out to the sides of her body to show she wasn’t armed. Wow! Cordy didn’t think any adult could be shorter than Buffy, but this lady made the blonde Slayer look like Shaq. Well, maybe not that much, but mystery woman was very short.

Instead of answering the cryptic statement, Cordy just raised her eyebrow in an impatient fashion as if to say, ‘well, get on with it’.

“You’ve gone through some bizarre changes recently. You feel compelled to go out at night and hunt the stuff of nightmares, but don’t understand why. The quick version is that you’ve been chosen by a higher power to fight supernatural evil. I have a friend in Sunnydale that can help train and guide you,” the woman offered.

Cordy couldn’t believe she was getting the ‘one girl in all the world’ speech. She rolled her eyes and retorted, “Gee, let me guess. Is his name Rupert Giles? Buffy’s the Slayer, not me, lady. And how do you know him anyway? Are you one of those Council creeps?” she asked, narrowing her eyes and glancing around for any other Watchers.

Giles’ friend blinked in shock, but shook her head in reply to the last question. “Rupert’s a dear friend, but I don’t work for the Council. My name is Hetty Lange. So you were able to fight those vampires without being a Slayer?”

“Well, I have been training for the last year or so, and I became a half-demon so I could live through the visions the Powers send me,” Cordy said with a shrug. Something about the woman made Cordy feel like she could trust her.

Hetty smiled warmly. “That’s very wise of you. If you ever need anything, here’s my card; call me day or night,” she said, handing over her personal information to the young woman. Rupert could tell her who she was when they talked next time. No need to make the girl feel defensive by asking questions.

Accepting the card, Cordy dug in her pocket for one of Angel’s. “If you ever need help of the supernatural kind, give us a call at Angel Investigations. My name’s Cordy, by the way.”

“Good luck with the visions,” Hetty commented, getting ready to walk away because she saw Callen headed towards them. No doubt he was worried about her being out so late by herself. “Thank you for all you do to keep the world safe.”

A/N: I was really, really tired when I wrote this, so I apologize if it’s crappy and completely OOC for them.

Tomorrow’s (hopeful) fic: Dawn/Green Lantern.
