Chapter One

Disclaimer: They all belong to Joss and ME, and the characters referenced all belong to DC Comics, the last I heard. Deal with it. I have.

Time Frame: Post 'Chosen,' and Joss' comic-verse doesn't exist for either the Scoobies or the Fang Gang, because they deserve better than to be screwed over like that.

Spoilers: None intended, but if you don’t know what happened up to this point, why are you reading this story?

Character Bashing: None.

Feedback: Of course!

Archiving: Talk to me first, please.

Author’s Note 1: This one is unbeta'd, as all of these submissions will be.

Author’s Note 2: As usual, “word” indicates speech, :: word :: indicates mental communication and { word } indicates a character's thoughts.

Author’s Note 3: Things happened quite a bit differently in this 'verse than they did in the Joss-verse. Oh, and this is also a bit of a crack-fic. I'm also going to suggest that this is probably going to be one of the least recognized crossovers that's shown up here on this site. Tell me if I'm wrong.

Author’s Note 4: This is story #26 for Challenge 6471: August Fic-A-Day 2011.

"Who the hell are those guys, and where the hell did they come from?"

Faith Lehane's question was clearly being echoed in the minds of the other half-dozen Slayers who were also staring at the four costumed individuals who had suddenly appeared at the site of the Slayers' battle with what appeared to be a small army of vampires augmented by groups of Fyarl and Jantu demons.

As Faith finished off both of her vampiric opponents, she saw the muscular figure in a golden-yellow full-body uniform race towards the Fyarls heading towards a group of civilians gathered together on the far side of the atrium, the pair of axes appearing in his hands as though produced by magic, while the svelte woman in the silver armor, the smaller man in the blue and red uniform and the light blue-complexioned man in the dark-grey cloak, who had all appeared with the golden speedster, each split off in a different direction to rescue other endangered civilians.

The golden-uniformed man's actions as he fought six Fyarls were quite literally a blur, even to Faith's Slayer-enhanced vision, and the battle was over in a handful of seconds, leaving several piles of demon sushi behind as the golden warrior then rushed to aid another imperiled group of people.

The silver-armored woman took the most straight-forward and expeditious actions against her chosen opponents, and simply ripped the left upper arm off the Jantu nearest her, and then proceeded to use it to beat both it and its companions to death. Seeing the grace and power the woman displayed, Faith would have sworn the woman had to be a Slayer, except for the fact that she couldn’t sense her presence at all, not the way she could with the other Slayers in the area.

The guy in the blue and red uniform had headed towards a group of vampires who were currently being held away from a group of children by two of Faith's Slayers, and once he had gotten closer to them, he held out his hand and gestured at the leeches, at which point, they all simultaneously burst into flame, their ashes slowly drifting to the atrium floor as he immediately turned to seek new opponents to face.

The new group's fourth member, the blue-skinned guy, had faded away and disappeared from sight after just a few steps, but a moment later, one of the Jantu demons in the area he'd been heading for abruptly rose up into the air and then apparently flew through the air in a brief demonstration of uncontrolled flight, only to slam against the brick wall, its skull crushed to a messy pulp. A few seconds later, a second demon repeated its fellow monster's actions, while a third's throat suddenly seemed to tear itself open another moment later, spewing the monster's lifeblood onto the atrium's polished granite tiles.

Shrugging off the question of who the newcomers were, after ascertaining that they weren't any sort of threat to the public, Faith quickly returned her focus to the battle going on around her. After all, she and the rest of her squad getting paid to take these fuglies down, and not wonder about newbies who weren't threatening the populace, so the sooner she got down, the sooner she and the girls could get back to base, to finish out the rest of their shift.

Ever since the Day of the Great Awakening – as the date of May 20, 2003, had quickly come to be referred to – the world had changed a great deal, with the disclosure of the existence of the supernatural aspect of the world being just one of the many shocks to their sensibilities that the unsuspecting public had learned to deal with.

Whether Willow's magic had been the source of the sudden proliferation of people who possessed abilities ranging far outside the normal parameters of humanity's capabilities was unknown, and not something that anyone expected to determine anytime in the near future, since it had also been in that same time frame that humanity had learned that they were no longer alone in the vast expanses of the universe.

While scientists across the globe sought in vain to explain what was happening around them, the world's populace quickly discover that numerous areas of the planet had undergone significant alterations to both their physical and metaphysical aspects, leaving some regions overflowing with what some people were soon referring to as 'mana,' while other localities were apparently completely destitute of that same resource.

And both the governments and the inhabitants of those same regions had speedily learned that there were a great many species other than homo sapiens who had also developed their own cultures, and that they were just as capable of being intolerant of other beings that didn't follow their own beliefs and idiosyncrasies as humanity could be.

Equally surprising, and just as disturbing, was the additional realization that there were now a number of areas – most notably in those zones acknowledged to have previously been focuses of unexplained disappearances – now seemed to be centers of equally sudden and unexpected appearances of creatures which had never before been seen in this timeline or, in some instances, of others which resembled species known to be long extinct.

Rallying faster than most of their constituents would have believed possible, the various world governments had quickly reached mutual aid agreements to support each other against the quite-frequently hostile forces which appeared to menace both the governments and their populations, with any beings displaying any sort of ability which could be used to facilitate the continued existence of said governing organizations quickly being either drafted or hired as part of their combination municipal police and defense forces.

Which easily explained why the sudden appearance of so many mystically augmented young women around the world had been so enthusiastically welcomed by virtually every still-existing government, and why they had so quickly been integrated into the front lines of defense against a seemingly ever-increasing and constantly varying series of enemies apparently determined to see humanity and its allies all join the ranks of species listed as extinct.

Not everyone, however, was pleased with how all the newly Awakened Slayers had responded to the various governments' entreaties and demands.
