Summary: Giles has one secret that the Scoobies will never drag out of him.

Story: Start of a New Day

Stumbling bleary-eyed into the kitchen, Giles immediately zoomed in on the cup of coffee waiting for him on the table. Taking a small sip, he closed his eyes to savour the taste, once again feeling blessed that his potion master’s skills extended to the kitchen and in particular to coffee brewing.

Having woken up a bit more, he gave his lover a small smile in thanks which got him a smirk in return. Rolling his eyes in response, Giles finished his coffee before putting his cup in the sink for the house elves and taking the three steps needed to take him to his lover’s side.

Bending down for a kiss, he said, “Morning, love.”

“Do stop using those blasted pet names, Rupert,” Severus promptly told him. “You know how I feel about them.”

“What will you do, if I don’t?” Giles teased. “Will you punish me?”

A smirk played around Severus’s lips as he replied, “You’d enjoy that, so I’d have to think of something else. Perhaps I’d tell your children about your morning habits . . .”

Giles only narrowed his eyes in answer.

No, however much he loved them, Giles didn’t have any intention of ever telling any of his children (or the Slayerettes as they still insisted on being called now and then) that he wasn’t a morning person and that he therefore preferred a cup of freshly-brewed coffee to wake up properly instead of the tea that he favoured the rest of the day.

And if Severus knew what was good for him, he wouldn’t tell them either. Being deprived of sex would be the least of his worries, if he ever did.

End of “Start of a New Day”.

A/N: This is the result of another challenge concocted by me and lothlorien for one of our weird celebrations. The point is to put five different Buffy characters in five different fandoms and write something short centred around the word “coffee”.

Fourth prompt: Giles, Harry Potter.
