Main Hall
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

Conversation had just begun to return to normal levels after the Goblet's final selection, and the Hufflepuff table was abuzz with everyone in the House enthusiastically congratulating Cedric Diggory on his selection as the Hogwarts Champion, when the Goblet abruptly erupted for the fourth time this evening, its red-orange flames shifting to an iridescent electric blue as they flared up towards the ceiling, ejecting a scrap of paper which then began drifting to the floor below.

As the scrap of paper produced by the Goblet floated down through the air into the hand of an extremely surprised-looking Albus Dumbledore, a buzz of hushed questions and comments began running through the various groups of students seated around the Hall.

"Harry Potter!" Dumbledore's incensed voice read out the name chosen as the – quite literally – unprecedented fourth Champion, and the previously muted buzz immediately exploded into a cacophony of surprised, disbelieving and outraged exclamations.

The members of Gryffindor House all turned to stare in astonishment for a moment at their combination resident celebrity and sporadically-ongoing resident of the hospital wing, Harry Potter, before they began swarming him and overwhelming him with exclamations of congratulations and questions about how he'd managed to circumvent the age line to deposit his name in the Goblet.

Amid all the chaos, the fourth Champion's protests of innocence and non-involvement were ignored by virtually everyone present.

Confusion and bedlam continued run rampant for the next several minutes until Dumbledore cast a 'cannon shot' spell which stunned virtually everyone present into a startled silence.

"Harry Potter!" Dumbledore's voice echoed through the Hall again. "Please join the other champions in the annex!"

"I didn't put my name in the Goblet!" Harry obstinately insisted once more time as he began pushing his way through the teeming crowd around him.

"This is probably someone's latest effort to kill me, so they can impress Voldemort, and get on his good side," he muttered to himself disgustedly.

"Y'know," he said reflectively as he began making his way to the annex room, ignoring the sneers and looks of reproach that were being sent his way by the members of the other three Houses, "I just wish that whoever's responsible for my name coming out of the Goblet knew all the shite I have to put up with, and they had to take my place in this tournament, instead."

Off to one side, invisible behind the illusion of a shadowed corner she'd created, Halfrek, Patron Saint of Abused Children, smiled with approval at the youth's words as she listened to the teen's self-pitying rant/whine before she said, "Wish granted!

"Good boy, Harry! This will let me take care of all those bastards!" she declared with satisfaction.

An instant later, reality shimmered and rewound itself for the briefest of moments before preceding forward again.

Three more times, the Goblet's fires flared before finally subsiding once and for all, and the fragments of parchment bearing the names of 'Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore,' 'Bartemius Crouch, Jr.,' 'Peter Pettigrew' and 'Tom Marvelo Riddle, Jr.' all began their slow and soon-to-be-eventful descent to the eagerly waiting and incredulous crowd below.

"Hmm, wonder what lucky sods' names are on those papers?" Ron Weasley mused as he and the other members of Gryffindor watched the floating papers make their gradual descent.

"Well, as long my name's not on any of those papers, I really don't care, mate," Harry Potter declared before turning his attention back to his Yorkshire Pudding.

"Let someone else be the one trying not to get killed this year."
