The team gathered around as Jack moved to put the picture up on the white board.
It had been fortunately slow the past few days and the Missing Persons team had been working on their backlog of cases.
Now it looked like someone else needed their help.
They wasted no time as they jumped right into the case. "This is Faith Pryce, formerly Faith LeHane. Fifteen, formerly of Boston. She and her legal guardian moved here eight months ago from Boston. The neighbors reported sounds of a fight, but didn't think much of it since the guardian had been training Faith in self defense."
"Where is the guardian?" Danny asked.
Jack clenched his teeth as he pulled out another photo. This one he put on the table. He noticed the entire team paled at the sight. "Apparently she was here under a false name and passport."
"So this might be tied to her activities or past rather than something to do with Faith?" Samantha offered.
"No," Martin disagreed. "If it involved her, she'd be alive and Faith would have been left. This has something to do with Faith."
"We need to know what's in her past and find out about the present," Vivian added.
"I'd also like to know how Pryce got a hold of her legally," Elaina chipped in.
"All right. Danny, you need to get in touch with the cops at the crime scene. Vivian and Elaina you've got Boston. Martin, find out about the Pryce woman. Sam, you're with me on witness interviews."
Everyone stood and headed back toward their seats. There was a lot to do if they were going to find Faith.*** *** ***
Six hours later, the team looked up from the table where they were comparing notes as Director Fitzgerald stepped into the room and up to the table. He barely glanced at his son before addressing Jack. "This is no longer your case," he stated, his posture stiff, his voice betraying his dislike, though if that was his dislike of the situation or the person to whom he was speaking, none could tell. "These men are here for the files."
"With all due respect," Jack started to say.
"This is not a request," the director stated, cutting him off. "We require all of your notes and finding. You will turn it over and move on to other cases. This never should have gotten to you."
Knowing they had no choice, the team gathered their notes and findings before turning them over to the Director. They could only hope that the people taking the notes would care as much about finding Faith as they had.** ** ** ** ** ** (somewhere in the mid-west)
Sinking down into the spot she'd chosen as her safe place for the night, Faith leaned against the cold cinder blocks and prayed for a few minutes of rest.
She didn't know how the old vamp was doing it, but somehow, he seemed to know where she was. The image of her now-dead watcher flashed before her eyes and she remembered the woman's last words, "If I fall, make for Sunnydale. Don't trust the council."
She hadn't waited, she'd run, knowing no one would look for her - at least no one with any good intentions. She needed to get to Sunnydale - quickly. She just hoped the other slayer would be able to help her kill Kakistos.** ** ** ** **(luxury hotel in downtown Manhattan)
"Are we going to pursue the new slayer?"
"No. The situation will sort itself out."
"You believe she can take down Kakistos? or that they both can?"
"It doesn't matter. If she - or they - take that monster down, good for them. If not, well, we'll have another slayer. Hopefully one who knows her place."
