Benevolent Magic
By Beriaearewn

Andrew backed against the wall, his arms securely around the gently-loved brown teddy bear. “You can't have it. It's my bear. It doesn't need slaying.”

Buffy sighed, wondering, once again, why she thought taking Andrew on this trip was a good idea.

Oh yeah, everyone else was busy or didn't trust her.

“I'm not going to slay it,” she soothed, “but we do need to know if the magic is benevolent or not. Believe it or not, Andrew, I don't want anything bad to happen to you, not from a vamp, a demon or a seventy-year-old teddy bear from Ottumwa, Iowa.”

Running a hand across the soft fur of the bear, Andrew shook his head. “Hard to believe it was buried in a time capsule for fifty years before being dug up and returned to the family.”

Buffy moved closer and placed a hand on Andrew's shoulder. “Yeah,” Buffy agreed, thinking about the man's family. Walter O'Reilly had been loved by his family and seemed like a truly remarkable man.

“We just need to get the ingredients Willow mentioned.”

“They're all set on the table,” Andrew stated, heading toward the small kitchenette.

“We're also going to need,” Buffy began before Andrew started talking right along with her, “A brass candlestick holder, beeswax candles and holy water.”

“Already prepared and waiting,” Andrew added when Buffy stopped talking. Seeing the odd expression on her face, he blinked and asked, “What?”

Buffy just shook her head. When had Andrew gotten so good at preparing things in advance? And how did he knew what she was going to say? “Nothing,” she murmured. Maybe they'd just been spending too much time together...
