**Disclaimer, I am but a humble fan and Buffy belongs to Joss Whedon, Avatar belongs to Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko or maybe Nickelodeon. The point being that I claim no rights to anything that belongs to someone else or is copyrighted.**
It was a year today since she found herself in this strange land, with even stranger animals. As she watched the sun set on the bay she reflected on how well she had adapted to her new life here without electricity, malls or sadly even cute Manolo Blahnik strappy sandals. She still missed home and she especially missed her mother, her friends and her Watcher, but she was, if not happy, than content with her situation.
The people of Kyoshi had taken her in and she had earned a place and purpose amongst them. Despite being overly suspicious of foreigners they welcomed her and after a few weeks the curious stares of the young and worried glances of the adults waned. Since trade has been hampered by the ongoing war all citizens of the island nation are expected to contribute and Buffy was quickly assigned work. At first she was difficult to place and bounced from one job to the next. She found a place with one of the local seamstresses but while Buffy could sew quite well thanks to the memories she retained from her night as a 18th century noblewoman, she had too much energy and not enough attention to keep with it. Kyoshi gets quite cold being so close to the South Pole and she eventually found herself at one of the lumber camps splitting up firewood for the upcoming winter. Buffy easily kept up with the young men at the camp and a report of her capabilities made its way back to the elders who in turn passed the news to Suki for consideration. After three months on the island, Buffy was asked to join those training to become Kyoshi Warriors.
“Buffy! Come down out of that tree, we’re going to be late to our own induction ceremony!” Daiyu shouted. Buffy lithely drops to the ground while replying, “Hold your ostrich horses, I’m coming!” The two quickly head up the winding path to the village ready to embark on the next stage of their young lives.
A/N: Hey all, I’ve been reading and reviewing for a while but this is my first offering of fan-fiction and even though it is quite short I hope it meets with approval. I was watching the episode “Warriors of Kyoshi” the other night and couldn’t get the idea of Buffy as one out of my head; so here we are. Not sure if this is going to be a one-shot or the inspiration for something longer, but I wanted to post it either way. If I do write more, I’ll probably go into how Buffy ended up in the Avatar dimension and maybe some flashback to her training, but I don’t want to get ahead of myself.
Advice, reviews and nicely worded criticism is welcome as I'd like to improve my writing.
