Taking Steps

Disclaimer: I own Supernatural and Buffy......NOT!! I do not take credit or ownership of these fantastic characters.

This isn't what she wanted...falling back to being a Slayer. Was it too much to ask for a simple break? It seemed that no matter where she went that reality would still find its way back to her. The worst part about all of this? She had no Scoobies to rely on even though she had made the right choice for herself. It had never dawned on her how she had truly relied on her friends for the research.

"Well, I guess I better stop avoiding it then..." Buffy whispered to herself as she straightened herself out and forced herself to enter the library.

She quickly looked around and felt unsure of how to proceed. This wasn't Sunnydale's High School library or even Giles personal library. It wouldn't have the textbooks she was so use to relying on when she did her research. How did she expect herself to investigate that girl's death without any of the things she needed? It seemed so hopeless that she nearly considered giving up, but then she realized that girl deserved something better than that.

"I won't let her die in vain..." Buffy said to herself with determination.

Slowly, she aimed herself to the computers and sat down. For a few moments, she thought about her next step. Then she quickly started to look for unusual deaths in the area. What she found puzzled her as she noticed that in the past ten years female teens had been dying in the same manner. Usually, they were troubled youth who ended up pregnant and remained unmarried, but the most chilling detail was what occurred before their deaths. There were animals, drained of blood, left on their front door. The teen died within 48 hours later...

"Well, I guess I have something to work with...time to find out who you were and if you were pregnant. Only problem is how am I going to do that?"

Buffy bite her lip in frustration as she pondered her next step in her research.

Note: I want to thank my readers for staying with me despite my disappearance from TtH. I was very busy the past several months and I have finally graduated. Today, I was surprised to find comments awaiting me that were encouraging my writing. Thank you! Also, as I haven't been on this site for a while I don't have a beta anymore as I lost some of my old emails. I would appreciate it greatly if someone wanted to beta my stories.
