Jack followed Daniel into the school library to see a dark-haired teen sitting at a table, reading from something big and dusty-looking. Without looking up, the teen simply began talking.

“Giles, I think you need to see this,” the teen began. He scooped up the book, and stood, turning to look at them. He blinked, and looked at the two strangers. “Uh, I, uh, thought… Well, I thought you were someone else. You here to see Giles?”

“Yeah,” Daniel smiled. “I just wanted his help with some texts I’ve been trying to get a hold of. Do you know when he’ll be here?”

“Well, I kind of thought you were him. You know, someone comes in, smelling of old books, it’s pretty much always Giles. Not that I mean to say that you smell, or anything, it’s more just, uh, you know.”

“Oh, I know,” Jack smirked.

The teen spared Jack a grateful smile, then went on. “So are you a librarian, too?”

“No. I’m an archaeologist,” Daniel explained. He glanced at the book still open in the teen’s hands. “Is that Latin? Do you need a hand with it?” he asked helpfully.

The teen’s eyes went wild, and he snapped the book shut. “No!” he yelped, before clearing his throat. “I, uh,” he blushed, “it’s just the engravings. Naughty pictures,” he nodded. “Which I shouldn’t be looking at, and I’ll just go now, because I have class, and I can’t be late, because that would be bad.” With that, he lunged for his book bag, and raced out of the library, still clutching the heavy tome to his chest.

“Well, that was fun,” Jack grinned.

“That was extremely odd,” Daniel frowned. “There weren’t even any pictures on the page he was looking at. And I’m sure the book was in Latin. I wonder what he wanted to talk to Dr Giles about.”

“Who knows,” Jack dismissed. “You sure about the Latin? ‘Cause this is California. More importantly, this is a Californian public high school. I’m not sure they even know what Latin is.”

“It certainly wasn’t English,” Daniel argued. “I’m certain it was Latin. I wish I’d at least gotten a look at the name of the book,” he frowned. “That’s going to bug me all day now.”

Jack sighed. “Well, we’re here, you’re going to talk to this Dr Giles about your problem, hopefully get to look at some dusty books, and then maybe, just maybe, we can meet up with the others for a bit of r-and-r.”

“I suppose,” Daniel mused. “You don’t think Las Vegas isn’t too close to Area 51? I’d hate to lose Sam to some interesting thing when we finally get to have a week together.”

Jack frowned at his team-mate. He’d known there was some flaw in his plan. He sighed, and wondered if he could call up and issue orders to keep his favourite Captain away from the place. Maybe just talk to Teal’c. That would have to do for now.
