Covert Assassin

Ch 2: Hawai’i

Disclaimer: I don’t own anything from Buffy, Covert Affairs, Dark Angel or Hawaii Five-0.

Authors Note: I’ve changed the story to Multiple Crossovers because I felt that this story would be the perfect chance to crossover because I wanted to keep the CIA’s hunt for Xander to take a while. Also I’ve gotten some complaints about grammar and all I’ve got to say about that is that I’m doing my best. I would get a beta but I have an extremely busy schedule and I tend to update whenever I can. This tends to be sporadic and I find it hard to keep a beta when there can be weeks between updates.

Joan was having a terrible day and it looked like it was going to only get worse. She wasn’t that surprised this whole week was one disaster after another. They had been forced by the higher ups to take the Lopez case. Apparently the Lopez’ had some friends in extremely high places. So Joan had been forced to send Annie to go meet with them. When they had gotten there things had quickly gotten worse. They had been given bad information about how much trouble the Lopez’ were actually in. They had been told that the anti-American group that the parents were associated with had no idea that they were thinking of betraying the group. Annie’s first meeting with them had been disastrous.

They had been spotted and it had been one mistake after another. This cluster fuck had culminated in fourteen dead terrorists and one agent stuck in Mexico waiting to be picked up. Annie was stuck there with no back up for another day. They had no operation going on in Mexico at the moment and the closest agent to them was in Mexico City.

Joan walked into Auggie’s office and saw that he was hard at work.

“What do you have for me Auggie?”

“Well, I’ve been doing a search on the man that helped Annie and you’re not going to like it.” Auggie said.

“I don’t know if I really want to know or not.”

“Well, I guess it would depend on what you consider bad news. The good news is that Annie just gave us more information on a
criminal ghost than we’ve been able to find in four years.” Auggie said.

“What ghost?”

“I think the name given to him by Interpol was the Angel of Death.”

“The Angel of Death, we need to get Annie out of there now.” Joan said.

“It’s already happening as we speak. I pulled in some favors and she should be back in an hour or two.”

“Tell me what’s known about this Angel of Death.” Joan said.

“Well this Angel of death appeared around three years ago and quickly became what some would call the best assassin in the world. He never fails with any contract he takes. What sets him apart from other assassins is that he has never been seen. Anyone who actually does see him soon ends up dead. Also no one’s been able to get someone to turn on him. The last time Interpol tried their informant ended up dead before he was able to tell them anything more than the fact that the Angel has a tattoo of a bar code on the back of his neck.”

“I already know this Auggie. Cut to the new stuff.”

“From what Annie told me the Angel of Deaths actual name is Xander Harris. He’s around five eleven with black hair and brown eyes. Annie estimates his age to be anywhere from twenty to twenty four years old.” Auggie said.

“Is that it? That’s hardly anything to go on.” Joan said in disbelief.

“Usually we would be screwed but Annie was uniquely able to give us some incites that were extremely helpful.”

“Are you waiting for an invitation?” Joan asked.

“Well she told me that he had a Californian accent and if she had to guess she would say he was from the LA area.” Auggie said.

“That’s good.” Joan said and was about to leave when Auggie spoke up.

“It took around twelve hours of searching but I found him.” Auggie said as he pulled up a picture of a boy’s high school picture.

“This is Alexander Lavelle Harris he’s a U.S. citizen raised in Sunnydale California. He was a straight D student until the middle of his sophomore year when he started getting straight A’s He then disappeared after he graduated. He did return to Sunnydale a year later where he is suspected of the murder of medical intern Ben Wilkinson. If I had to guess this was actually his first kill. Almost immediately after this kill he disappears completely and the Angel of Death makes his first appearance two weeks later.” Auggie said.

“Good work Auggie. What are you doing to find him?” Joan asked.

“Well, there was another clue that Annie slipped. This Xander wasn’t interested in Mr. and Mrs. Lopez. She told me that he was actually interested in their daughter Janelle.”

“How was she able to figure that out?”

“She said that he told her that his job was to make sure Janelle and her family made it out of Cuba safely. Annie told me that he didn’t seem to even know the parents names.”

“Why would a notorious assassin care about an eleven year old girl?”

“Apparently this woman hired him to get Janelle out of Cuba.” Auggie said pulling up a picture of a young woman with long red hair.

“Her name is Willow Rosenberg. She works for an organization that has schools all over the world.” Auggie said.

“What does a woman that runs schools have to do with an assassin?”

“That’s what I was wondering…so I did a background check on her and found out some interesting stuff. Apparently Willow and
Xander grew up together in Sunnydale and where best friends.” Auggie said.

“That’s interesting. Is there any way we can use their friendship to find him?” Joan asked.

“I’m already on it. I have taps on the personal phones for three central people of the organization which includes Willow. If anyone makes contact with Xander I’ll know it.”

“Good work Auggie. Tell me if anything comes up. Also tell Annie that I want her report within an hour of her return.” Joan said before walking out of the office.

Xander was in a good mood he was finally back home. He had just arrived from a meeting with some extremely shady people and was now five billion dollars richer. He was officially retiring. That fiasco down in Cuba had shown him that he was no longer capable of the criminal life. He had somehow grown a conscience and if there was one thing that his altered memories had taught him it was that having one was detrimental to business.

The fact that he had let the blond CIA agent live and hadn’t killed Janelle’s parents showed that he was slipping. The reason why he was such a good assassin was that he never left a witness. The CIA now knew his name and with Agent Walkers linguistic scales he wouldn’t be surprised if she knew he was from California. It was only a matter of time before they knew everything about him.

He was getting sloppy and there was no way he was going to spend the rest of his life in some prison. Who was he trying to kid? If they ever succeeded in capturing him he would be out of any cell they put him in before an hour passed. He just didn’t want to spend the rest of his life running from those bastards. So he decided to sell his weapons industry to the highest bidder and go underground. Now all he had to do was deal with the information the CIA had.

Xander clicked a button on his laptop and sat back to enjoy the chaos.

Joan had just sat down at her office for the first time in hours when an alarm started blaring. Joan stood up and ran to the main room. Everything was in chaos. People were running around trying to figure out was happening while the tech personnel were typing furiously at computers. It was obviously something doing with technology and that meant Auggie most likely knew what was going on.

Joan walked over to Auggie’s office and found it in a similar state. Auggie was at his desk working hard while yelling at some underlings who looked like they were going to have a heart attack.

“What’s going on Auggie?” Joan asked as she walked a little further into the room.

“Our fire walls have collapsed and our systems are being corrupted. Nothing I’m doing is slowing this thing down.” Auggie shouted as he kept on working at his desk.

“Is this the Angel?”

“Most likely, we already determined that he’s able to get into our system.” Auggie said. Joan was about to ask another question when all power suddenly turned off. The office was suddenly dead silent. Everyone was standing in shock. Before anyone could react the lights came back on.

“What was that?”

“I would guess that whatever was affecting our system finally reached our power. Our generator kicked in. Also whatever hit our systems is gone. There’s no sign of it and there doesn’t seem to be anything missing at first glance.” Auggie said as he typed at his keyboard.

“Strike that! Everything to do with the Angel of Death is gone. Not only is everything we recently found gone all the old stuff is gone too.” Auggie said.

“So we have nothing on him?” Joan asked.

“Not exactly, we have this.” Auggie said raising a piece of paper with a student photo of Xander Harris.

“Not that it will do us any good. Even if we can find this guy there is no evidence of him ever committing a crime.” Auggie continued.

“There’s still all the information Interpol has on him.” Joan said.

“No there isn’t I’ve just gotten reports that Interpol, MI6 and twelve other intelligence agencies have just had attacks like ours. The Angel of Death just disappeared.” Arthur Campbell said from the door way.

A month had passed since Xander’s retirement and everything was great. He was dying of boredom but everything was fine. His life was composed of learning how to surf and hacking into every government branch he could think of for fun. He now knew more than he ever wanted to about some of the crap the US was doing along with at least twenty other countries. He had no social life what so ever. He no longer knew how to talk to people and it showed. He was terminally shy and tended to stutter when people hit on him. It didn’t help that his transgenic genes had slowed down his aging process so that he could barely pull off eighteen even though he was in his mid twenties.

Another thing that got in the way was that he had almost no sex drive. A year or two after that fateful Halloween he had noticed that he was losing Alec’s memories. Even though his new abilities weren’t disappearing Xander had panicked. What was the point of having super powers if you didn’t know how to use them? He had used some of his shadier contacts to get him a sorcerer who didn’t care what you wanted as long as you paid him enough. He had paid him twice his asking amount to help him alter his memories.

It ended up being that the spell had overlaid Alec’s memories over the existing memories and his neurons were slowly getting rid of the unnatural memories. The sorcerer had offered him a solution, to trade his original memories for Alec’s. If he had been faced with that choice a few months earlier he would have refused but by that time he his ties with Willow and the rest of the gang had been falling apart beyond repair. So Xander had agreed. With one spell he had forgotten everything about his life that happened before Buffy showed up in Sunnydale. In its place were memories of growing up in Manticore being trained as an assassin.

The thing was that he had also been trained on how to have sex with both men and women. Manticore believed in using any method possible to get close to a target and expected their assassins to use sex to get there if needed. So like all the other things they had taught them they had taught Alec to have sex. So now Xander had the memories of an eight year old being ordered to have sex over and over again. Like one would expect his sex drive was close to none.

So Xander had thrown himself into learning how to surf, which amazingly enough he sucked at. He had just wiped out for the fourth time in a row and was going to call it a day.

“You’re tensing up too much.” Someone said from behind Xander. He turned around to find one of the most beautiful women he had ever seen behind him. She had long black hair that was wet and a nice lithe body that was displayed perfectly in her bikini.

“Excuse me?” Xander said out with a little stutter. He was a deadly assassin and he couldn’t even talk to a woman. He should have kept the rest of Alec’s memories too.

“You’re too tense that’s why you keep wiping out.” The woman said with a smile.

“Oh thanks.” Xander said looking down at his board as he felt his face turn red.

“No problem. Did you just start surfing?” The woman said. Xander looked up at her face and quickly looked down when he saw that she was still looking at him with a warm smile.

“Yeah, I started a month ago, but I can’t seem to get myself to relax.” Xander said feeling a smile overcome his face.

“I could help you if you want?” The woman said. Xander looked up at her in shock momentarily forgetting his embarrassment.

“I don’t want to be an inconvenience.”

“Don’t worry I already teach one of my friends every morning, you could join us.” She said.

“I could pay you.” Xander said.

“Naw that’s cool. The truth is my friend is terrible at it and I think he’ll feel more comfortable if he sees that he’s not the only one who had trouble too.” She said with a smile.

“Are you saying I’m terrible?” Xander asked with a laugh.

“Oh god, no I didn’t mean that! I just meant that he would feel better if he wasn’t the only one learning.” She said looking a little panicked.

“That’s alright. My name’s Xander by the way.”

“Oh my name is Kono.”She said with a smile.

“So when do you want me to be here?” Xander asked with a smile.

“We surf every morning around six.” Kono said.

“Sure I’ll meet you tomorrow.” Xander said with a smile. This was the first time he had talked to someone like a normal person in years. Things were looking up.

“Hey Danny I’ve got a treat for you.” Kono said as she practically skipped into the Five 0 head quarters. Danny looked up from his paper work and couldn’t help the feeling of dread that overcame him. She had the same smile on her face that she had the last time she had just taken down three bad guys. This couldn’t be good.

“Ahh you shouldn’t have. It’s not even my birthday.” Danny said as he leaned back in his chair.

“I found a guy for you.” Kono said with a proud look on her face.

“What the hell makes you think I’m interested?” Danny spit out.

“Please with how many times I’ve caught you staring at the boss’s ass.” Kono said.

“Even if that was true why would you think I’d be interested in this guy of yours?”

“Well, maybe because this guy is adorable. I wouldn’t be surprised if Chin found him attractive and my cousin is one of the straightest guys I know.” Kono said.

“Still I’m not interested.” Danny said.

“Come on Danny. You need to get back in the game and you refuse to go after any of the girls the guys and I have thrown at you. Just give him a shot.” Kono said throwing him a puppy look that Danny thought must be programmed into every female at the age of four.

“What makes you think this guy’s even interested in guys?” Danny asked.

“I’ve seen this guy at the beach for weeks now and I’ve caught him checking out both guys and girls. He’s at least bi.” Kono said.

“Fine I’ll meet him.” Danny said, deciding that the best thing to do was to give in to Kono. She tended to get her way in the end no matter what.

“Good cause he’s going to join us tomorrow morning for our surfing lessons.” Kono said with a little smirk before exiting his office. Danny couldn’t help the fond smile as he stared at his closed door. He should have known he had no choice in the matter. He decided that he was going to be optimistic for once. Who knows maybe he’ll like this guy.
