Summary: Xander becomes mixed in the complex life of being a CIA agent after doing a favor for Willow.

Xander couldn’t believe that he was here. After the disaster with Glory Xander had sworn that he would never work with the Scooby Gang ever again. He had cut almost all of his ties with them. So why was he sitting here at a Paris café waiting for Willow to show up? Oh yeah, he had been too dumb to stop talking to his lifelong friend.

Xander took a sip from his coffee as he scoped the place for any threats. The man at the counter had a knife strapped to his ankle and had a slight limp on his left side. He was dressed in a suit that was flawless. He was most likely ex-military and Xander wouldn’t be surprised if he had a gun hidden somewhere. Xander wasn’t that worried. If worst came to worse he could easily take him. Xander continued looking around and found nothing else to worry him.

He took another sip from his coffee before looking at his watch. She was fifteen minutes late and he was starting to lose his patience. He was a busy man with many jobs running at once. He also hated being out in the open for such a long time…especially in Paris. He knew of at least five warrants out for his arrest. Of course he would spot any officers coming towards him and be long gone way before they were close enough to do anything.

He was about to leave and call this trip a waste of time when he saw a familiar red head walking down the street. She looked pretty good. Her hair was longer than it was when he had last seen her, falling a few inches past her shoulder. She was dressed in a flowing green dress and seemed to flow through the crowd without ever touching anyone.

“Hi Xander” Willow said as she sat down across from him.

“Hey Willow, do you want anything? The coffee here is delicious.” Xander said with his usual goofy smile.

“No thanks I can’t stay long.” Willow said as she pulled a folder out of her bag. She handed to him. Xander stared into her eyes trying to find out what was going on. He knew that they weren’t as close as they used to be, but she hadn’t even asked how he was doing. That was so unlike Willow. Finally Xander tore his eyes away from her and opened the folder.

There was a picture of a young girl with short blond hair and striking green eyes. Apparently she was a newly activated slayer that who’s parents where associated with a terrorist group operating out of Cuba and it seemed like the shit was about to hit the fan. The parents were talking to the CIA and had been sloppy about it too. The terrorist group knew about it and was going to deal with the problem.

“This is tragic and all, but what does this have to do with me?”

“We want you to go in there and make sure that Janelle and her family make it through this intact.” Willow said.

“I don’t work for the Watchers council.” Xander said.

“I know but I was hoping you would do it as a favor.” Willow said as she fidgeted in discomfort.

“I don’t owe any of you anything. Especially since all you stood back and watched as Buffy threw a hissy fit since I dared to go against the bitch generals orders.” Xander said as he tossed the folder onto the table.

“I’m so sorry about that Xander, but no matter how you feel about us think about Janelle. She’s just a little girl she doesn’t deserve to suffer for her parent’s mistake.”

“I’m an assassin, conman and thief do you really think you’ll win me over by appealing to my conscience?” Xander asked leaning back in his seat as he watched a woman with two kids walking into the café.

“Fine if you’re not willing to do it for the better good the Watchers council is willing to pay for your service.” Willow said with a face made of stone. Xander stared at her in shock that she was willing to go that far.

“Well, what exactly are you hiring me as? Do you want me to go in there and kill all the people threatening them or do you want me to smuggle them to safety?”

“We want you to get them out of there. We don’t care how you do it as long as it happens.” Willow said. Xander couldn’t help the smile that escaped. Willow was getting better at politics since she just gave him permission to kill without actually saying it.

“My current rate is a million and a half with all expenses covered by you.” Xander said. He was lying a little, usually for an operation this size he would charge twice the amount he just asked for.

“That’s a little high.” Willow said.

“I already gave you a huge discount.”

“Fine, the money will be in your account by seven tomorrow morning.” Willow said. She stood up and started walking towards the exit.

Xander watched her walk away before calling out “Willow!”

“Yes.”

“You look really nice. Whatever you’re doing keep it up.” Xander said with a smile. For the first time since she walked into the café Willow smiled. There was the girl he had known his whole life.

“You do too. I would tell you to keep it up if I didn’t know what you do for a living. Call me when you’re done with the job.”

“I will. I promise.” Xander said. Willow gave him another glimpse of her radiant smile before walking out of the building. Xander sighed before taking a sip of his cold coffee. Maybe this hadn’t been such a bad thing. He had talked to one of his oldest friends for the first time in two years and he had a job that would make him a decent amount of money.

Xander was sitting in his hotel room in Cuba, once again cursing the gods for ever introducing him to the slayer. He sighed as he looked down at his surveillance pictures in frustration. This was a disaster. The family was surrounded by the terrorist group. Both parents where never alone. There was always someone tailing them if it wasn’t the CIA it was by James Rodriguez who was the hit man for the pre-mentioned terrorist group. When the hell was he supposed to actually meet with the dumb asses that started all this shit in the first place?

He also kind of wanted to shoot the incompetent CIA agent in the head. She had met them in a way too public place and had been too stupid to know that they were being watched. The higher ups had started to suspect Janelle’s parents when they had started to act extremely shifty. After that they had started following the parents and Agent Walker. It had taken little to no time to figure out that they where betraying the group.

There was no way for Xander to meet with the parents to get them to agree to the escape plan that Xander had made. That was unfortunate. He could have gotten them out an hour after talking to them and make it were no one would know they were gone for hours. Now he had to make sure that the CIA succeeded in their own extraction while making sure that the parents weren’t assassinated before then.

Xander got up and pulled out his laptop. If this was going to work he would have to hack into the CIA, which was way harder than you would think. Xander quickly worked and soon got the information that he needed. Agent Walker would lead the parents out of Cuba tomorrow night. The problem was that he already knew that Rodriguez was already planning to make his move tonight.

Xander stood up and walked over to the closet and pulled out a black suitcase. He opened it revealing two hand guns with silencers. Xander took them out and put them into his shoulder holsters and pulled out a black satchel from the back of the closet. He opened it to reveal a large dagger. He strapped this one on his left leg. He had some work to do.

James Rodriguez stepped out of his shower and grabbed his towel. He wrapped it around his waist and turned towards the mirror and grabbed his shaving cream. He was about to start when he heard a crash from his living room. James quickly walked into his bedroom and grabbed his gun from his bedside table. Whoever was stupid enough to break into his room would regret it. He slowly walked into his living room and found one of his lamps shattered on the floor. He looked around but didn’t see anyone.

He turned around to head towards his kitchen when he was hit hard on the back of the head. He fell to the floor and lost his hold on the gun. He turned around and saw a young man standing over him with a gun pointing at him. He desperately looked around for his gun and saw it near the man’s foot. The man smiled at him before kicking the gun away.

“It’s too bad I have to kill you. You’re really good looking and well hung apparently.” The young man said before pointing the gun at him. James looked down and saw that his towel had come loose revealing him to the world. James reached down and covered himself. If he was going to die here he wasn’t going to be left exposed.

“You’re not my type.” James snarled.

“Oh well, doesn’t matter anyways now does it.” The young man said before a small popping sound happened.

Xander looked down at the dead body. That was just pathetic. This guy had called himself a hit man yet he had let himself be caught unaware. Xander couldn’t help but let a scowl of disgust out. Even though the man was extremely hot, he didn’t deserve anything. Xander kicked at the towel uncovering the man. The man didn’t deserve any dignity.

Xander quickly walked out of the house and turned left. He had parked five blocks away. That was way too easy. He had to check if nothing had changed while he was doing this. Knowing his luck someone else had already killed the parents.

Annie Walker answered her cell phone as she got out of her car. She had just gotten back to her hotel from meeting the Lopez’. Everything had seemed alright with the family and everything should be set for the removal tomorrow night.

“So what could possibly be making you call me so late at night Auggie.” Annie asked with a smile.

“We have a problem. The removal has been moved up to tonight.”

“What do you mean? I just left them thirty minutes ago.”

“Well you better get back there you guys leave in three hours.” Auggie said.

“Why what’s happened?”

“Our systems were hacked an hour ago. From what we can see they only accessed the information on your case.” Auggie told her.

“How were they able to hack our systems? I thought that was impossible.”

“It’s supposed to be impossible. If I hadn’t been installing updates on our firewalls I would never had found it.”

“Alright I’m heading back right now.” Annie said as she got back in her car. She pulled out and started on her way back.

“Annie be careful only a few people can pull off what this guy did. None of them you want to meet in the middle of the night.” Auggie said before hanging up.

Xander was watching the family’s apartment from across the street. He had broken into the business across the street. It always closed early and its security system was barely more than a blinking light. He looked through his binoculars and watched as a car pulled up to the apartment. He watched as a blond woman stepped out of the car. Apparently Agent Walker was back. Something must have happened. She wasn’t scheduled to be back for another eighteen hours.

It was too early for Rodriguez’s death to hit the public. His body was most likely still there in all its glory. That meant he hadn’t been as careful as he thought he had been when he hacked into the system. He watched as the family rushed out of the building into Annie’s car. Xander watched them speed away. He was about to leave when he saw two SUVs follow them.

“Damn it! Can’t I ever get a break?” Xander said as he ran outside to his car. He was soon on his way towards the marina. If they followed the plan they should be heading for the marina where they would be getting on a plane on their way to the good old’ U.S. of A. It was just his luck that he knew a shortcut and should make it there in no time.

Xander pulled up to the marina a short ways off from where the plane was parked. He walked over to where the plane was and couldn’t help but cuss at the stupidity of the CIA. This was a perfect place for a trap. It was enclosed on all sides with only one entrance. Usually this would be a good thing except there were already people here that were definitely not CIA. When Annie got here they would be caught between two fronts of bad guys. Xander quickly jumped onto the storage case that was at least six feet high. God he loved his abilities.

He moved from unit to unit until he had a position close to the entrance. Luckily he had brought his complete arsenal which included a grenade launcher that one of his weapons handlers had gotten for him.

Xander had barely gotten set up when Annie pulled in. Xander could only shake his head when they got out. They should have had some signal to tell her that they were actually her people. Annie was starting to look more worried the closer they got to the men. Just then the other SUVs pulled in. Xander quickly pointed his grenade launcher and fired. The furthest SUV went up in flames. A few seconds later the second SUV joined the first. Now he just had to deal with the men who were already here.

In the chaos that had broken out Annie had retreated to behind her SUV with Janelle and her family. They were pinned down by gunfire. It looked like he would have to do everything. Xander quickly ran down the rows of Storage units. With his advanced speed he got behind the men in less than a minute. Xander counted three men with assault rifles. This was going to be easy.

He jumped down and silently made his way behind the closest man. Before the man even knew he was there Xander had snapped his neck. The other two turned towards him when they heard their friend’s body hit the floor. Xander sped towards the man on the right slamming his rifle into his face. While the man fell back Xander kicked out at the second man hitting him in the stomach. He back handed the first man who had recovered. The second man was still bent over so Xander slammed his fist into the side of the man’s head.

He looked around and saw that Annie instead of taking advantage of his distraction was still behind her own car. Xander reached down to search one of the men and found a cell phone. He looked at the text messages and saw that a text had been sent calling for back up. More men would be here soon they had to get out of here and fast.

Xander ran out towards Annie’s car and yelled “What the hell are you waiting for get on the fucking plane.”

Annie slowly walked out from behind the car. Xander was surprised by the guts in this girl. He had just taken down two strike teams and here she was walking out of the only cover she had.

“Who are you?”

“Does it really matter? I just saved your ass from a trap that you stupidly walked into. I thought you CIA agents were supposed to be smart.” Xander said as he walked towards her.

“If you’re not willing to tell me your name at least tell me why you are here.” Annie said.

“I’m here to make sure that Janelle and her family make it safely out of the country.” Xander said.

“Why would you do that?”

“Cause I’m being paid a handsome amount of money. Are we going to stand here talking all night waiting for the back up to arrive or are we getting out of here?”

“Fine let’s get out of here.” Annie said as she called over Janelle. Xander looked at the terrified family as they walked towards him. Xander felt something stir inside him that he had thought had died a long time ago. He was feeling bad for them. He actually wanted to help them…keep them safe.

“Who said anything about me going with you?” Xander asked.

“Our pilots dead and I don’t know how to fly it.” Annie said. Xander scowled as he looked around for another way for Annie to get out. There was no one there. He was about to tell them to find another way when he made the mistake of looking into Janelle’s scared eyes. He really did think his conscience had died when Buffy had punched him for the first time so long ago.

“Fine I’ll fly you into Mexico. That’s as close as I’ll take you.” Xander growled as he started to walk towards the plane.

Annie stared at the young man that saved them. He couldn’t be older than twenty four and he looked so innocent. Everything inside of her was telling her that she could trust him even though she had seen him take out two strike teams single handedly.

“Are you not going to say anything for the whole trip?” Annie asked.

“Yes.” He said and scratched at his neck. Annie looked closer when she saw something black on his neck. She leaned in and saw that he had a tattoo on the back of his neck. It was a bar code.

“When did you get that?”

“I got it when I was seventeen.” He said.

“Why a bar code?” she asked.

“I didn’t exactly have a choice.” He muttered. Annie didn’t think she was supposed to hear him.

“What do you mean?”

“I mean that it was tattooed on me against my will.” He muttered. Annie stared at him in shock. Who would tattoo a seventeen year old against their will? They must have held him down and if they held him down long enough to give him a tattoo they could have done other things to him.

“Why haven’t you gotten it removed?”

“It’s a reminder that the shit can hit a fan faster than you think.” He said.

“Can you at least tell me your name?”

“Why is my name so important?”

“I like knowing who saved me and who I owe favors to.” Annie said with a smile.

“You don’t owe me anything. I didn’t do this out of the goodness of my heart. I’m getting paid over a million dollars to save that family.” He said pointing over his shoulder towards the huddled family.

“Well, you were getting paid to make sure we lived but it wasn’t your job to get us out of there. You didn’t have to be here flying us out of here.”

She watched as he smiled in what she could only call a goofy way. It made him look way too young to be flying the plane.

“I know you’re a good guy. Otherwise you would have left us there.” Annie said with a smile.

“That’s where you’re wrong.” He said. They sat there in silence for a few seconds before he continued, “My names Xander.”

“Well Xander it’s nice to meet you.” Annie said with a smile. Xander smiled at her before looking down at his controls.

“We’ll be in Cancun in ten minutes. When we land I’m assuming the CIA can find their own way to get you guys back to the US.” Xander said.

“You’re not coming with us?”

“Please, I agreed to get you out of Cuba I never said I’d take you further. I’m not stupid as friendly as we’ve become the moment I step into the US there will be an army of men ready to capture me. My long dead conscience might have forced me to help you but I’m not going to walk into a trap.” Xander said.

“I kind of expected that.” Annie said looking back at the now sleeping family. She watched as Xander started to take the plane down. They remained silent throughout the landing. Xander turned the plane off and turned back to look at the family.

“I’d forgotten how it felt” Xander said in a soft voice.

“Forgot what?”

“How it felt to be saving lives instead of ending them.” Xander said turning to look at her. She watched as he got out of the plane.

“Oh and the only reason you’re not going to end up dead in a day or two is because you remind me of an old friend I used to have. Hope you have a nice trip back to Washington DC.” Xander said before disappearing into the night.

Annie stared after him in shock. After a minute or two she shook her head and took out her cell phone. She had to call Auggie and set up a ride home. This was going to be hell to explain when she got back. She could feel the headache already.
