A/N: This story takes place in season three of Angel and during 'Breaking Dawn' for Twilight. It starts after Bella became pregnant but before Jacob and the other werewolves found out.
Edward watched from the doorway as Carlisle examined Bella. They'd just gotten back from their honeymoon after realizing that Bella was pregnant. They weren't sure how it happened, but somehow Bella had become pregnant with his child and it was growing very fast.
Carlisle made his way over to Edward.
"How is she?" Edward asked.
"It's growing fast. Much faster than any human child would. At this rate, she'll be ready to have it in just a couple of weeks tops," Carlisle said.
"What is it?" Edward asked. He knew whatever was inside Bella couldn't be human, but he had no idea what it was.
"I don't know. All I know is that it's strong. Very strong," Carlisle said.
Edward knew what his adoptive father was trying not to say. It was too strong for Bella. It was going to end up killing her. "We have to get it out of her."
"You know Bella won't allow that," Carlisle said.
Edward nodded. He did know that. Bella had already told him in no uncertain terms that she would not let them destroy the child. She already loved it. "I just don't understand how this could happen. Nothing like this has ever happened before."
"Actually it has."
They both turned to see Jasper with a book in his hand.
"Jasper, did you find something?" Carlisle asked. He'd asked Jasper to try to find out if anything similar to Bella's situation had ever happened before.
"Who's Angelus?" Edward asked. He'd just read from Jasper's mind that a vampire named Angelus had had a child not too long ago.
"I've heard of him. They called him the Scourge of Europe. He's a different kind of vampire though. Less powerful, but much meaner. They don't have souls. Their bodies are completely overtaken by demons. They have their human memories, but they would rip apart all those that they once loved with absolutely no remorse," Carlisle explained.
"Jasper thinks he has a soul now," Edward said after reading the man's mind.
"What?" Carlisle asked.
"Apparently Angelus made the mistake of feeding on a gypsy. Her clan cursed him with a soul. Now he has to live eternity knowing what he did and feeling guilty about it," Jasper explained.
"And this vampire had a child?" Carlisle asked for confirmation. He figured he must or there would be no need for Jasper to bring him up.
"Three months ago. A son," Edward said.
"You know, just maybe one of these days you could let me tell my own story?" Jasper asked Edward. "Anyway, yes. Angelus, actually they call him Angel now, has a child. A human child."
"A vampire with a human child. Extraordinary," Carlisle said.
"Does this mean the thing inside Bella could be...?”
"I'm afraid not, Edward. It's too strong to be human," Carlisle said.
Edward looked down sadly for a minute before turning back to Jasper. "What about the mother to this other child? What happened to her?"
Jasper hesitated. He wasn't sure he should tell his brother what happened. Of course that was moot because as soon as he thought it, Edward knew.
"Yes, but the pregnancy isn't what killed her. She killed herself to save the baby," Jasper said.
"That doesn't make me feel any better," Edward said.
"Jasper, how did you hear about all of this anyway? This couldn't have all come from a book, not if it just happened a few months ago," Carlisle said.
"No, it didn't. The only thing that came from the book was the information about Angelus and his curse. The rest I got in a combination of a vision from Alice and from a couple of contacts on the street. Alice had a vision of Edward and Bella going there for help. I talked to a couple of people that knew the story of 'the miracle child'," Jasper explained.
"So this Angelus, or Angel, whatever you want to call him. Where can we find him?" Edward asked. He knew it was unlikely that this guy would be able, or even willing, to help, but he would take anything right now that had the remotest possibility of helping Bella.
"From what I gather, he's in Los Angeles now."
Edward turned to Carlisle. "Can she make the journey?"
"I don't see she has much choice. I will come as well," Carlisle said. He obviously needed to go oversee Bella's care, but he was also unwilling to allow his children to be in such close proximities of the Scourge of Europe without him. "Everyone else shall stay here. Right now there is no need for us all to travel. Jasper, get the others together and try to come up with any other possibilities. We need to be prepared in case this doesn't work out."
"Of course, Father," Jasper said before walking away.
"I'll go tell Bella," Edward said before going back to his wife.
