It had been a few weeks since Willow Rosenberg had come to Hogwarts,
and Harry had been in detention for all but two days of that time.
First, it was the mashed potatoes thing, then he had hit Snape with
water balloon that Hermione summoned. After that it was because he
had been caught out of his quarters. Now, he was serving detention
with Professor Sprout for stealing flowers to leave in front of
Willow's door. He'd do it all again too.
These were the thoughts spinning in his head when
he looked up to find the object of his desire watching him. It wasn't
suppose to work that way, and he wasn't quite sure what to do. So he
"Harry," he heard the woman whisper, and he managed to blink
once. "I'm flattered, really, but you can't keep doing these things.
You're going to get yourself expelled."
"You're worth it." He managed to stammer.
"I'm really not. Besides, Harry, I'm too old for you, a professor,
and unavailable. This fixation of yours isn't healthy."
Harry listened and mentally dismissed her objections until he reached the
last one. That was news. "You have a boyfriend?"
"Yes." Willow smiled. "So, will you please try to focus on your
school work instead of me. I assure you the prior is much more useful
Harry nodded, but his mind was nowhere near the words she
"What?" Willow asked.
"Who is your boyfriend?" He watched her face redden slightly.
"So there isn't one?"
"No, Harry, there is. You just wouldn't believe me if I told you."
"Why? It's not like it's Snape or anything." He knew he had crossed a
line as she bit her lip and her face turned purple. Of course she'd
find that thought unappealing. He shouldn't have even said it. He
didn't want her angry at him. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you
Willow looked up and met his eyes. "If you don't want to make me mad,
try to stay out of detention. Okay?"
Harry took a deep breath. "Okay."
Willow threw herself onto Severus's bed and waited for him to get
back. He'd had a double session with the Gryffyndors today, and he
usually returned from that quite cranky enough without throwing in a
student conference at Dumbledore's request. Hopefully this time Harry
hadn't done anything to exacerbate Sev's mood. She wanted him fairly
pleasant for what she wanted to discuss. Which was the Halloween Ball
Dumbledore had announced at dinner last night. Willow glanced down a
the potions book in her lap and considered bringing this up at
another time, but she and Severus got so little private time with the
game going on, and she wasn't sure she was willing to risk not
having the conversation at all.
It became a moot point as Severusbreezed into the room and tossed her a
brilliant smile. The man rarely had a dim smile. What was up with this?
"Who are you, and what have you done with Severus?" she quizzed,
unable to look at his happy face and not smile back.
He said nothing, instead dropping into the space next to her and kissing her
soundly. When Willow finally broke the kiss and looked into his eyes she saw
something very like triumph there.
"So, what, you finally managed to get me fired and steal my
"Cute, Willow," He snorted, "but no. I managed to finally produce
enough evidence through my little side job," Willow shuddered; she
was uncomfortable with the amount of danger Sev faced to act as a spy
against Voldemort. Severus was aware of this and just continued. "to
put Lucius Malfoy in Azkaban. Which, coincidentally, was the last
task Albus asked of me before demanding I put my full focus on
Willow thought about this for about half a second before emitting a
squeal of joy. "So you get to quit, right?"
She squealed again.
"So this means you'll go to the Halloween Ball with me, right?"
"Correct." Severus replied as he kissed her throat. "Wait. What?"
Willow just grinned.
