Another night. Another race. Another victory.Story: Another Night
Another night. Another race. Another victory.
At least that’s how it should have happened for Dom. Instead of adding another win to his name, though, he saw the other racer streak by him right before he hit the finish line, winning by an inch.
He braked and slid his car to a stop next to the winner. As he got out, Dom locked eyes with the other racer. Shock was quickly replaced by anger as the other man strode towards him.
“You need to stop letting up on the gas when we’re racing, man. I’m not some kid who sobs at a loss,” Brian spat out furiously as he crowded Dom, ignoring the elated spectators swarming around them.
“I didn’t,” was the gruff answer he got in reply.
One thing you couldn’t say about Brian was that he was slow on the uptake. As realisation dawned, he started grinning. A wicked light chased the last vestiges of anger from his eyes, making his eyes shine an even more luminous blue. “You didn’t what?”
Dom gritted his teeth. “I didn’t let up on the gas.”
“You’re saying that I won.”
This time Dom refused to say anything, instead opting to cross his arms and lean back against his car, away from the heat that rose from Brian’s body; a heat that stirred an answering heat in his own. Brian knew better than anyone when to cut his losses and run, so he let Dom have his moment of silence.
“Winner’s choice, right?” he asked, referring to the bet they had taken earlier that night.
Dom nodded slowly as a wary look entered his eyes.
“Come on then, lover boy, we have a fun-filled night ahead of us. Follow me!”
Dom grabbed Brian’s arms tightly before he got away, leaning in to whisper in his ear, “If you ever call me your lover boy again, I’ll make sure that there won’t be any fun-filled nights for you in the near future. Understood, O’Conner?”
Brian shivered theatrically. “Oh, I like it when you get all bossy and grabby. Save it for the bedroom, though.” Having delivered that parting line, Brian simply slipped out of Dom’s grasp, intent on getting to his car and getting home in record time.
Seeing his lover happily bound away, Dom allowed himself a smirk, secure in the knowledge that Brian didn’t have eyes in the back of his head, before getting into his own car and tearing out of the parking lot, hot on the tail of his lover.
It didn’t matter, if he had or hadn’t intentionally lost, because it had gotten him exactly what he wanted.End of “Another Night”.A/N:
I asked a few people what they thought I’d never write and one of the answers was “the first time Brian beats Dom in a race”. I showed them, right?
