Through her driving hunger Abby realized she was in her coffin, not just some strange anonymous one. Maybe it was all a bad dream and she’d be locked in her coffin at home. She’d ignored hunger before to get work done, and to slim down.
“Hey!” She yelled. “Still alive in here!” A little softer, “I think.” She banged and kicked on the coffin.
Tim looked over at Tony, he wouldn’t do this kind of sick prank. Tony thought the same thing looking around at Palmer, before joining Gibbs and Duckie at the side of the machinery. Tony was only a beat behind, followed by Ziva and McGeek as Gibbs gave the order to stop lowering the coffin.
“Duckie,” Gibbs said.
“Jethro, she was insanguinated. It has been three days."
“No leads,” Leroy Jethro Gibbs said with cool anger.
“She wouldn’t have done it voluntarily, I don’t think. Despite her cultural interests,” Duckie continued to the silence of the others listening in, while the banging and yells continued.
Tim wasn’t sure what they were implying, while at the same time he could draw his own gut conclusion. They all loved Abby in their own way, but Tim was the only one of them who had been Abby’s lover, who had wanted more but took her for what she could give. All of that flashed by in less than a beat, when he broke in to the usually uninterrupted dialog between Duckie and Gibbs.
“We aren’t going to stake her! I won’t let you.”
Tony was shocked speechless by this entire exchange. Dead was dead. But…
“Abby’s going to break her way out of her favorite coffin if we don’t get her out first.”
It just slipped from his lips.
Gibbs gestured, and the team helped get the coffin back on the grass.
