Would you like a side of chaos with your order?

AN: Been too gosh darn long. I blame my PS2 and Disgaea. Finally picked up a copy of the first game and have spent too much time playing that and going to work.

This one is short and written on the spur of the moment but here goes.....

Sleep Easy Hotel....
Cleveland, Ohio....

“Umm... Willow, what is all this?” Buffy said as she came into Willow's hotel room.

She'd gotten word from Kennedy that Willow had been acting a little out of sorts once they got to Cleveland and from the looks of the place, the girl was right.

One of the walls of the room was covered in paper and bits and pieces were connected with different colored pieces of yarn.

That didn't even touch the crazy spiral of floating newspaper clippings hovering around the ceiling.

“Oh.” Willow said as she looked up from her laptop. “Hey Buffy.” She said before focusing back on the computer in front of her.

“What are you doing?” Buffy asked her best friend. “Kennedy said you were getting kind of crazy and well... it looks like it.”

“Oh, this?” Willow said as she tilted her neck to one side, causing it to crack rather loudly. “It started out as a favor for Xander, but then it kind of spiraled out of control. Pretty much like everything in his life.”

“What do you mean by that?” Buffy asked. “What does all of this...” She said as she gestured at the floating newspaper articles in the air and the pictures on the wall “Have to do with Xander?”

“Well.. Xander asked me to try and track down his folks. I started doing a basic internet search and see if they had applied for relief like most of the Sunnydale survivors. I hit a dead end so I started researching Xander's immediate family tree to see who were the closest relatives they could mooch off of. That was when things got kind of crazy.”

“I see that.” Buff said as a newspaper article from the 1980's about two Police Detectives from Texas that saved the Governor of that state's son from some kidnappers floated past her. “I think I saw a made for TV movie about this once.”

“It's not just Dan Stark.” Willow said with a shake of her head. “It's also Benton Frasier, Jack Carter, Douglas Fargo, Jonathan O'Neil. The names go on but they are all distant relatives that have very chaotic things happening around them in what would be considered extraordinary circumstances.”

“So his family tree has some wacky in it.” Buffy said with a shrug.

“Ethan Rayne's Mother was an offshoot of the same Lavelle line that Xander's mother came from.” Willow said worriedly. “If I'm right.... Xander has more potential chaos in him than Ethan could ever hope to gain in three lifetimes.”

“What are you saying?” Buffy asked. “Is Xander a Chaos Demon? That would be odd since he doesn't have any slime covered antlers or anything.”

“Not a Chaos demon.” Willow said with a shake of her head. “Think of it this way, when you first started out as a Slayer, you only knew about Vampires right? Your Watcher didn't even bring up the other things that go bump in the night right?”

“Right.” Buffy said with a nod. “Things were way simpler back then.” She said almost wistfully. Sometimes she almost missed the the Thorazine and the padded walls. Sometimes.

“Well, you see the Slayer is a being of Order, sent to try and stem the decay and chaos caused by demons, mostly vampires.” Willow said. “Whenever a member of Xander's family interacts with those who are very orderly or have a career or job with a strict code of conduct... things take a turn.” Willow said.

“Take Dan Stark for example.” Willow said as she tried to explain. “Every new partner he gets is a by the book style of police officer at first. Over time the cases he ends up working with them get stranger and weirder to the point where either his partner quits or does something so spectacular he gets promoted. And that is just with a basic law enforcement job. Imagine what kind of effect someone like that could have on someone with a chosen destiny.”

“I bumped into Xander before I met Giles.” Buffy muttered. “Before the first body was even found. Does that mean?”

“I don't know. That's why I did the research. Every enemy we faced, every big bad or little bad that came by us.... A clueless guy who ends up winning the heart of a woman that tortured men for a thousand years. It all adds up Buffy. All of it.”

“Everything that's happened since I arrived in Sunnydale.” Buffy trailed off.....

“It's all Xander's fault.” Willow said with a nod. “Somehow.”

AN2: Been watching The Good Guys again too. That show doesn't get old.
