Title: Buffy’s Refrain
Disclaimer: I’m just playing with other’s toys. I’ll put them back before they get permanently damaged.
Summary: Buffy’s life in Italy while the rest of the Scoobies live in England. She’s finally found a boyfriend mature enough to handle her life as the Slayer.
AN: AU for Highlander because while I like the characters I haven’t watched the show in years, nor have I seen most of the seasons. “Speaking” ‘thinking’
Buffy sat at the table she had claimed the first time she had wondered into Isabella’s Caffetteria about a year ago. The coffee shop was small, homey, and as different from the touristy shops that littered the main streets of Rome as possible to get. Old men and women were the main customers. The proprietor, Isabella had taken one look at Buffy called her too skinny and fed her at every chance she got. Isabella and the regulars talked to Buffy when she came but none of them pushed when she looked like she needed time to herself like today.
Buffy was thinking about her family and what their reactions would be to her boyfriend of eight months. She hadn’t heard anything from them in almost the entire time she’d been living in Rome. She wondered about that but she had asked them not to contact her until she was ready. Andrew did tell her that once a week he emailed the Scoobies telling them they were both fine. Maybe they held out so long because they knew she was okay but even with her boyfriend and Andrew she was starting to get lonely. She missed Dawn, Giles, Willow and Xander. She was kinda surprised by how much she missed Faith as well. Yeah, they had buried the hatchet and worked together but they’d never really gotten along or to know each other at all.
She wanted to introduce her boyfriend to her family. She was sure they would like him better than any of her previous boyfriends. He had a few things going in his favor: one was the fact that he was a living breathing man, two was the fact that he wasn’t jealous of her abilities, three was his skill with the long sword and other weapons, and fourth was his skill with languages. He had been alive longer then Sumerian had been a dead language.
His immortality might be seen as a negative but he wasn’t a demon so to her opinion they cancelled each other out. Methos was a good man that knew about the darkness in her life. He wasn’t perfect; he’d told her about his stint as Death. He had trained more than a few slayers in his life time. He found it amusing to mess with both sets of Watchers from time to time. Currently he was messing with the Immortal Watchers as Adam Pierson.
He hadn’t been a part of the Slayer’s Watcher’s since they had lost sight of the girl instead of the weapon, but he had kept his ear to the scene and helped where he could. Demons feared him more than they feared the Slayers. During his days as Death, he’d killed as many demons as humans. The only reason he’s stayed away from her after he’d heard about her was the Hellmouth. Immortals reacted badly when near a Hellmouth. It tended to drive them away or insane if they managed to fight the instinct to flee.
She smiled fondly as she thought, ‘Xander and Adam would probably get in a prank war. Dawn would be excited to meet someone she could talk languages with. Willow would…no stopping that thought before it can start. It’s probably better to never tell Willow he’s the oldest living Immortal. Giles would appreciate his dry wit and music taste.’
Strong arms wrapping around her from behind and the gentle kiss to the top of her head shook her from her thoughts.
“Hello love, what’s got you all introspective today?” asked Adam as he took the seat across from her.
Buffy smiled at him before answering, “Just thinking about my family and you. I think it’s about time to head to home at least for a little while. I want you to meet them and them to meet you.”
“When did you want to go?” asked Methos, happy she was ready to see her family again.
