Chapter 25

*I'm sorry that I haven't uploaded in months. I've been busy with school, a book, and other stories. Here is the pre-battle chapter*

The Island

They made their way as silently as they could through the jungle. They had yet to run into any demons and Buffy was thankful for that. Peter was keeping watch overhead and would come down every once in a while to point them in the right direction. It was slow going, but it was better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks to Peter, the bulk of their supplies were at their new camp waiting for them. It made it a lot easier to hike through the jungle and ensured that they weren’t too tired when they finally arrived. There was plenty of tree coverage and a small stream nearby. Directly behind them was a cliff face that jutted out enough to offer some protection from the elements. It would work for now. Buffy wasn’t planning on being here much longer anyway.

“Alright everyone, we’re going to rest here for about an hour and finalize our plans before our assault. Those of you who are staying behind need to help Jack set up an infirmary. The rest of you get ready.”

Buffy was joined by Willow, Peter, Faith, Parker, Dean, Sam, and Piper. Phoebe was helping Paige to figure out her abilities and teach her some basic spells, Elliot was going over fighting techniques with several of the survivors, and Hardison was helping Kate organize supplies. Jack and Brennan were going through the medicine and makeshift bandages that they had while Hurley collected some water.

Dean’s eyes scanned their ragtag army, “Do you really think we can pull this off?”

Buffy followed her gaze. It wasn’t very promising, and many of these people were going to get themselves killed, but it was all they had, “We might, but it won’t be without its casualties.”

“Every war has its casualties B,” Faith added.

“The difference is that these people didn’t choose this,” Parker sat on a nearby rock, “They were forced into it.”

Sayid joined them, “I don’t know many who would choose war. It is senseless. But when a person is thrust into battle, they will do anything to protect themselves and the ones they love.”

Piper’s eyes fell on Phoebe and Paige, “That’s what Prue did. She fought and died to protect us.”

Sam put his arm around her shoulders. She flinched at the contact at first, but eventually relaxed. He turned to the rest of the group, “So what’s the plan? Are we just going to run in there in our little groups and hope we can kill some demons before they slaughter us?”

Buffy got angry, “If you don’t want to go, then stay here.”

He put his hands up, “I’m not saying that, I just want to have a plan. We’ve got magic and all of these special abilities on our side. I say we use them to draw the demons out, or distract them so that our other people can get in close.”

Buffy took a deep breath. Being so close to the demons was bringing back her anger from before, “I’m sorry. You’re right.” She turned to her best friend, “Willow, you know what you can do so give me some options.”

Willow’s eyes got wide, “Me!? Well, um…I can…Oh! I can create a giant fireball! I’ve also been working on this spell that will let me communicate telepathically to people.”

“How many people would you be able to talk to at once?” Dean asked.

Willow thought about it for a second, “I don’t know, maybe like five or six? I haven’t really experimented that much with it. I would have to cast a spell on everyone that I wanted to communicate with. I don’t know how long I could keep it up though if I cast the fireball. Telepathic communication doesn’t take much energy, but conjuring a massive fireball does.”

Buffy smiled at her friend, “If you can communicate with the leaders of the different groups then that would be more than enough help. Peter can you look around and try to find a good vantage point for Willow? Hopefully somewhere where she can see everything that is going on.”

He nodded, “Yeah, I can do that.”

He started to take off, but Willow grabbed his arm, “I can cast a spell that will help me see further so don’t worry about that.” He nodded and was gone.

Buffy turned to Piper, “You freeze things right?” She nodded, “Can you freeze the complex?”

Piper shook her head, “No, I can only freeze a small area. I could freeze different areas along the way and give you guys some time, but I have to warn you, some demons can fight through it.”

“That’s okay; any time you can buy us would be good.” Buffy turned to Sam and Dean, “Do you think they’ll be able to pull off an exorcism if needed?” she inclined her head toward the humans that they had been training.

The brothers exchanged looks before Dean answered, “I think they could if they were only facing one demon and had a little time. They aren’t comfortable with the Latin.”

Buffy sighed, “We’ll just have to keep them further back. I don’t want to get them killed if I can help it.”

Peter returned, “I found a fairly good vantage point, but it wouldn’t leave you much room to move around. You would have to stay pretty stationary.”

Willow gave a nervous laugh, “I’m not planning on moving a whole lot anyway.”

“Piper come here!” Phoebe called out.

Piper made her way over to her sisters followed by Buffy and the others. “What is it?”

“Paige is half white lighter!” Phoebe exclaimed.

“That’s not possible. Is it?” she asked.

“What does that mean, that she’s half white lighter?” Faith asked.

“It means she can orb! It’s like when Hiro teleported, but different,” Phoebe explained.

Buffy approached the raven haired girl, “Can you show me?”

Paige looked around at all of the expectant faces, “I can try. I’m still not sure how I did it.” She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and concentrated. Her felt tingly for a second, but nothing to indicate that she had orbed. It wasn’t until she heard a few gasps that she realized it worked and opened her eyes.

“You really are part white lighter. Can you heal too?” Piper asked.

Paige looked to Phoebe who shrugged in response, “I hadn’t thought about that.”

Piper grabbed Paige’s hand and dragged her over to Dean whose cut from the demon attack was still healing, “Try and heal his wound.”

Paige looked lost and frightened. Piper grabbed her hands and put them near Dean’s head. He started to back away, but Sam grabbed his arms and held him in place. “Love is the trigger. Just try and remember someone you love and let that love flow through your hands to heal his cut.”

Paige nodded faintly and once again closed her eyes. She stood there for several minutes and eventually opened one eye to see that nothing had happened, “I’m sorry. I guess I don’t have that ability.” She dropped her hands and stepped away from Dean who breathed a sigh of relief.

“So your ability is to disappear and reappear in the same spot?” Sam asked.

Phoebe took over, “No she can also move objects with her mind, but it works differently than it did with Prue. Watch, call for that rock over there.”

Paige held out her hand and called “Rock.” The boulder appeared to orb away from where it had been and then reappeared next to her.

Dean nodded, “Okay, that’s pretty cool.” Sam looked at his brother who just shrugged.

“You three are more powerful together right?” Buffy asked the girls who nodded, “Alright, here’s the plan. The three of you will go in with the humans. Piper, you can give them the time they need to perform an exorcism. Peter, I want you to cause a distraction on the far side of the complex. That will give us time to get in close. Willow, I want you to cast your spell over Brennan, Peter, Piper, Elliot, Dean, Me, and Faith. I want to know what is going on and I want to be able to pull back if necessary.” She pulled out the rough map that Peter drew of the complex, “Piper, I want you to take your group through the west entrance, here. Peter you will be on the east side, here. I want you to do whatever it takes to pull the focus to you. Sam and Dean will lead their group in through the tunnels, here. Peter will move you into position before he starts his assault. Faith and I will be at the north entrance with Elliot’s group, which seems to be the most heavily used. After we have entered the complex we will split up and Elliot’s group will make their way towards the west entrance to meet up with Piper and the others. Faith and I are going to try and find the leader. No one is to engage with him. If you see him, you let Willow know where and get out of there. Is that clear?” The group nodded in unison and she continued, “I don’t want anyone taking any unnecessary risks. We are going to get whatever information we can and get out. Any questions?” She was greeted with silence, “Let’s get to work.”
